Anyone Use A Twsbi Nib In Another Pen?

One of the best elements of a TWSBI is its nib. I'm wondering if you have ever used the nib in other pens and if so, which nib in which pens? Please specify whether it was a TWSBI mini nib or a 530/40/80 nib.

Thank you!

I have these inks available for trade: Noodler's Widow Maker, Noodler's Borealis Black, Noodler's Baystate Blue, Noodler's X-Feather, Noodler's Bad Blue Heron, Noodler's Apache Sunset, Private Reserve Avacado Green, Private Reserve Black Cherry, Private Reserve Electric DC Blue, Private Reserve Velvet Black, Private Reserve Naples Blue, Waterman Inspired Blue, Private Reserve Ebony Green, Diamine Syrah, Chesterfield Emerald (Diamine Emerald), Chesterfield Tourmaline (Diamine Umber), Chesterfield Archival Vault (Diamine Registrar’s)*Iron Gall

Seems like it'd be the other way around, using some other brand's nib, especially if finer a line than TWSBI, in a TWSBI pen (Since it's basically a #6 once you get the nib out of the collar).

I think the 'mini' is a #5 and I don't know too many #5 pens out there (some Indian brands, but the name escapes me), but I know plenty of #6 capable ones (Jinhao X450/X750/159, Monteverde, etc being some notable ones).

I suspect there's not too many notable pens you would stick a TWSBI nib into that didn't already have a better nib than what TWSBI offers.

the mini is a number 5 nib meaning a Kaweko sport nib will fit (Muji pens)... but each to his own... the rest sport a number 6 nib which is well a lot... either way I didnt chuck in nibs to each other because I'm satisfied with the EF one I brought even if it was dry for an Iroshizuku ink...

Thank you. I have lost a few 580's and have extra nib units so I was thinking of using them in other pens until I end up buying another 580.

I think these take #5s. http://www.fountainpenrevolution.com/fpr_collection.html

If so you would need to get the TWSBI nib out of the feed collar before you could put it in one of those.

But the Mini is #5, the 580 is #6. So if you're looking to use the 580's nib (which is #6) there's a few options like the Jinhao X450, X750, 159, Monteverde pens, Nemosine Singularity, etc.

I have swapped the Pendleton custom ground nibs from my 580 (fine) with the nib from my Visconti Van Gogh on several occasions.

The nib and the feed appear to be the same between these two pens.

Seems that's the case, if so what's the mini's size?

I'm not sure -- and unfortunately I don't have a mini to compare (yet ;) ).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
