Can Anyone Suggest An Alternative For Caran D'ache Saffron?

Does anyone know of a good substitute for Caran d'Ache Saffron, please? Not a bright orange, but one as much like Saffron as possible. Thank you for any suggestions.

That's sounds as if is an awesome task. I look forward to seeing the comparison test. I'm sure I will be able to find something suitable there.

I too can't wait until that review -- as excellent as usual -- from Poland arrives, but in the meantime you might want to take a look at Herbin's Orange Indien, CdA's new Electric Orange, MB's (discontinued) Gandhi, Pelikan's Amber or even their Mandarin.

Cheers

Thanks, Mike. I have Orange Indien, and was thinking about Zpelikan's Mandarin and Amber, but not sure which to buy. Electric Orange looks a bit too bright for what I'm looking for. I'd love to try MB's Gandhi, but really have no hope of finding a bottle.

What about Noodler's Apache Sunset?

I'm looking forward to visvamitra's review as well!

It's almost impossible to buy Noodlers here in the UK, otherwise I would give it a go.

That's right. I've heard that before. I'll bet they'd do well to export their ink, given all of the fountain pen and ink enthusiasts round the world. ;)

I doubt he wants to get into that with the costs involved. Mr. Tardiff's prime directive seems to be keeping costs as low as possible. Unlike just about every other manufacturer!

I have Saffron, Apache Sunset and Habanero. To me Habanero is closer than AS.

btw, Saffron is still available. I got mine for about $25.

Many of the discontinued colors are able to be found if you look hard enough, if that's what you meant by "available". Interestingly, I've found that European sellers tend to have them more often than US sellers.

Show me a photo of written sample and maybe I can suggest something.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

This "shade" of Saffron isn't bad IMO. In any case it isn't especially bright, just like Hetty said...

How about Stipula Saffron. It's a beautiful ink.

Does anyone know where Stipula inks are available in the UK or Europe? Stipula Zafferano (Sapphron) looks a beautiful ink that I should

Ike to try.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
