I recently bought diamine graphite however it seems a little darker then your grey. I think I prefer Grey to Graphite so i'll have to buy it after reading your review,

Thanks I liked your review as it was nice and concise and focused on the more important day to day aspects of an ink.

Thanks :) From all the pictures that I have seen, I'd agree that Graphite looks darker than this grey.

Nice review, but maybe you could take a picture of it with your camera or phone. It will look much way more realistic that way, and it's also much easier.

Nah, I've tried pictures (look at my older reviews), this comes out way nicer and more color accurate.

I'll show you what I mean tomorrow when it's daylight because the ink looks really lifeless and 1-dimensional when they're scanned. A photo represents the way you see it

Personal preference I guess

Nice review and thanks! Especially the thought of Graphite. The latter looks IMO somewhat green, and, in comprison with a real lead pencil, quite "authenric". But... what's about the Grey? Can you compare both side-by-side?

I have both but need your survey first...

I think I've read that Diamine Grey has sheen to it. Have you seen any evidence of that? I have a sample but haven't tried it, and wasn't expecting to really see any because I was thinking of putting it in a pen with a fine nib, but if you spot any sheen I may rethink what pen it goes into....

Hey, uh no I haven't seen anything close to sheen in this ink. Even in my vintage skyline which is quite wet and flexible. Sorry :-P

I just used the macro setting on an LG camera phone

I much prefer the close up photos of the ink because I think they really bring out the character of the ink, and because it looks as it appears to you and I

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
