Jinhao 599 For 5.99 @ Pens N' More Til 07/27

Pens N' More gave me a promo code specifically for Fountain Pen Network.

Right now they have the promo code FPN599A to take $2 off the price ($7.99) of the Jinhao 599A, making it $5.99 total. The promotion ends after July 27th 2014.

There is no limit on how many pens they can buy, they will still get them for $5.99 with free shipping.
We will ship these orders within the same day the orders are placed, if not, then the next business day.

If you have questions, please contact them, as I am not employed by Pens N' More. I can't answer lot of the questions other than what I personally think of the pens.

Below are the colors they have (review samples I was given, the green one on the far right is the original metal version, which they sell, but is not a part of the promotion).

I prepare every new fountain pen with thorough "flush, rinse, & dry". With Pelikan Royal Blue and with Noodler's Eel Blue,

my 599's will write smoothly until the ink supply is exhausted. Both have medium-fine nibs. Though I prefer more heft in

a pen, this one is very good value.

I've also seen them as low as 2.50-3$ on ebay as well, but shipped from China, and not the US.

How do they get into the US?

You mean from Ebay? They ship of course. ePacket or whatever, I think the fastest I gotten my pens from a Chinese seller was around 3 to 3 and a half weeks, least some of the ePackets actually have tracking.

From Retailers in the US? I'd imagine the retailers put in an order for massive quantities and then get them. I know that's how GouletPens does it (Jinhao X450, X750, 159), it's usually an order of 500 per color or design, in order to get them low enough in price to make a profit. Not sure who they're using for a provider (probably the same sellers that are selling on ebay with the 10,000 etc feedbacks).

Some people just simply want their purchase faster, or generally don't trust overseas sellers. That $2 off deal seems decent if you're looking to order locally (in the US anyways) and quickly.

is a couple of bucks here and there really going to break the bank for you where you get them?

I don't live in the US. Hence the shipping cost becomes an issue. This specific pen is shipped freely from china. Hence, for me and others who live out of the US it's more than 2 bucks. Pen's and more charged almost $8 to ship out of the US. Also, their relatively high combined shipping price indicates that they may be profiting on the shipment from those who buy more than one product at a time.

I agree that Chinese shipments take a longer time to reach though, and in some cases people would prefer to pay more and have their order earlier.

To sum up, my post about the Chinese alternative was more for those who live out of the US. :-)

Yea there is that. :D I've seen the shipping cost to some countries from the US and others and it can be a bit insane in my opinion.

Far as a Chinese Seller, I've had the best luck and fastest shipping from epochmakingshop (though I'd imagine they use 3 or 4 other accounts as well on eBay). Their 599s are about 4.98 with free shipping, I know you can get it down to $2 if you really look, but I don't have experience with those particular sellers (And they look pretty new as if recycling an account to get that 100% feedback score again).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
