Omg Gift From My Kids- Writing Slope

I really can say my kids are awesome, Ive been saving my pennies for months for this slope, and they took it upon themselves to get mom something cool and chipped in the rest. Talk about being overwhelmed! It came with all it's original pieces and inkwells, apparently had been in a family for years and never touched. The shop owner also threw in all these writing things (totally different store but it sure says something about these local antique dealers!) He also had no idea it had secret drawers but thanks to Micheal I found em! Shout out to all your threads on restorations! B)

Good lord Im gonna be paying back karma forever! But you guys can understand my geeking out over this, talk about nerdgasm lol!

and this last one is the gold and shell pen he gave free as well. I thought it looks nice on this "modified inkwell" I made using an old pretty candlestick and a thimble for an inkpot ;) http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rNdf0JSFyAY/U87kTMs2jRI/AAAAAAAABBg/mK7VGd8E5NE/s1600/0722141509.jpg

Congrats Kate, now you have 2 slopes.

I'm jealous of your luck.

Then again, my wife would tell me that I don't have any place to put one. And she is right :(

Wow that one is a keeper, it is in very good condition for something that is well over 150 years old.

Have a read of

There is lots of information on writing slopes I think yours is early very much like one of mine.

Beautiful slope, cute accessories, very impressive!

It is even better that it was given by your children, and I really like your candle holder thimble inkwell for that pretty dip pen.

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

Great chilldren, obviously reflect their parent's character!

A lovely slope, with a little bit of TLC, as you say, it'll be even more beautiful.

They are so useful I cannot understand why they are no longer in favour! I suppose FPNer types are in the minority.

Thank you Everyone, especially for the compliments about my kids. At 15 and 13 I wouldve expected them to blow thier fair money (we just had fair and they showed animals to sell) on video games and typical boy stuff, not a suprise like this. so stll in awe about it cuz it's not "I got you a candy bar" or something like that.

Thanks for the link Micheal, it's a drool fest there lol!

Thank you Anee-Sophie, a thimble is just perfect for dip pen, It holds a ml or 2 which actually takes some time to use up I found, but I like it better than dipping in the bottle inself. Just a weird little repurposing idea but it works :) candlesticks being easier to find than inkwells lol

and Chunya I have no idea why hardly anyone makes slopes anymore! But thank goodness there's an effort to preserve the past. But if I knew woodworking I'd love to know how to make em!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
