Good Clicky Pens That Fit Schmidt 888 Refills?

Recommended Posts

Yes I know this is blasphemy.

But I am looking for a good pen to jot down stuff while at work, having a cap is kinda troublesome to scribble while standing. VP is kinda too delicate in case someone bumps me and I drop the pen.

I tried looking up FPN but didn't really get much results.

From what I have found:

  • Pilot G2 Limited
  • Pilot G2 Pro
  • Retrakt (Karas Kustoms)
  • The Bolt (Karas Kustoms)
  • Tactile Turn Mover
  • Solid Titanium Pen + Stylus (Big Idea Design)
  • Lamy Tipo
  • Lamy Swift?

Any other suggestions?

I have Pilot G2 LTD, Pentel EnerGel Alloy RT and Lamy Tipo and I can recommend Pilot or Pentel being better pens!

I have a review here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/242008-pilot-g2-limited/

I actually used Hi-Tec point V5 refills with fountain pen inks, but I realised using refills with the sponge thing in them (Lamy/Schmidt) allowed me to refill with fountain pen inks. The roller does wear out, but it's easier to obtain than the tips of a OneTouch (much cheaper too).

I have a Pilot G2 Limited, but it feels real heavy to me, so looking for other bodies.

You can't go wrong with a Parker Jotter or a Fisher Space Pen. But then I don't know their availability out your way....

Your recommendation is very good , but the OP want a click pen using standard roller-ball refill:

There is another 2 option for a click roller-ball pen, Cross Click Gel Pen. I've seen one in a store, but I found them too slim for me. The other one is Cross Edge RB, with a strange click action.

Does the Schmidt 888 refill work?

In theory all standard refills are the same length (+/- 5-6mm), the difference in the tip size (some wider then others) which means some of the refills are not able to get out...

Check this glossary for sizes: http://www.refillfinder.com/catalog/rollerball-pen-refills-glossary.html

Form what I can see there, a problem will be the missing bump near the base of refill if you can understand.

usk15,

You are correct. Roller ball/gel type refills which fit Parker Jotters are very standard; Schmidt does make some. Whether available where the OP lives I don't know. Fisher could admittedly be more problematic.

Hmm, yea it seems so, from what I googled, seems that people can't fit a G2 refill into a Cross Clicky for some reason. Ah well, I'll stick to using my G2 Limited then.

Well, I have quite a few Schmidt 888 refills which is why I am asking this. For writing in my office, I'll still use a FP. This is more of a convenient stand-in cum pen for borrowing. (Yes, someone managed to use my Varsity, resulting in the tines being misaligned, I'm worried lol)

  • 2 years later...

I also have many Schmidt 888 refills and love the way it writes. I am looking for more pens that can take the refill. I like the "clicky" style as well!!

Does anyone have a list of pens that can take this refill?

Will a Schidt 888 refill fit in a Uni signo or Pentel Energel?

If so, then there are a wide variety of good pen hosts that it will work with it. I happen to like the Paper Mate Inkjoy gel hosts and the Uni Jetstream hosts.

If it won't, then you're limited to hosts that can use the G2 refill. My favorite of these is the Pilot B2P gel (the one made from recycled plastic bottles). The Dr Grip gel is also pretty decent (just uncomfortably big in my pocket).

The Pentel Energel Alloy is a very nice ballpoint. The Caran D'ache 849 Metal Ballpoint Pen is another one that works well for me. The CDA 849 is easy to use with G2 Refills with a simple trim of the length. I'm going to try Schmidt refills in it next time it needs one and see how they compare to CDA Goliath refills.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've recently been impressed by the Uni-Ball Signo 207, a (push-button) retractable gel pen good for everyday use.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
