  1. 1. Would you buy one of these and give up on your "perfect FP ink" quest?

Voted no, since colour aside, this won't offer any sheen or shading, nor will it replace the unique feel you get when writing with a good fountain pen. Now, if they allowed for a line of custom FP inks whose colour you can change at will (and decide on matters of shading, flow, lubrication, etc), then you have my interest XD

Cheers!

We need another option!

I am already in line to be notified as soon as they hit Kickstarter, I am definitely picking one up! But I'm certainly not giving up on my fountain pens and inks either! Two totally different tools. :)

Hmmm.. If only there were a "maybe" option. I'd have to see those multiple tip sizes available. Because if it only came in that bold, stubby looking tip, the answer would be a "Hell no!" Now, if the nibs come in all kinds of interchangeable sizes, I might be persuaded. Especially in a calligraphy nib. But I am intrigued by the stylus option, as I dabble in digital art as well. For that, I'm going to vote yes.

I'll probably buy one, based on the price point of the finished thing. BUT I'm probably not going to give up on Fountain Pens.

While they state that ink cartridges for the Scribble will be pretty affordable, nothing beats a glass of ink on price point except for a cheap bic ballpoint. And aside from that it still is a ballpoint, even with a fancy color change system inside - I highly doubt it will come close to a FP in writing comfort.

My Pens/Nibs (inked/active): Lamy Studio/Vista/Joy (XXF slight-flex custom | 14k EF | EF | F | 14k M | M | B | 14k 1.1 custom | 1.1 | 1.5 | 1.9), TWSBI Diamond 580 (F | Pendleton BadBoy | Zebra G | F.P.R. semi-flex), Pilot Falcon EF, Penkala Vintage 14k semi-flex, Pilot Parallel (2.4 | 3.8 | 6.0)

http://www.fp-ink.info/img/button.pngI'm still looking for help/data/supporters/sponsors for my Ink Database - It already contains over 900 Inks but is still low on data about the inks except on the Inks I got myself or where I found nice data sheets. So Im looking for these: InkSamples mailed to me, Permissions to use InkReviews - preferable by people who have a lot of InkReviews online, InkReviews mailed to me so I can scan them, Sponsors that will help me to finance InkSamples, People willing to trade InkSamples (list of available Inks from me is available via PM request - please include available Inks)

I voted no, but I would love to have one. They should make one with a fountain pen nib.

Never going to happen probably. There is a lot of ink between the tines that would make switching colors a wasteful process. Think of it, you would need to dump it somewhere and you would need to create a lot of ink on demand, monitor ink levels and refill on the fly while writing with the amount of flow dependent on the paper. With a rollerball nib this is a lot easier, the ball is very small, doesn't contain much ink on it's own and you can just "print" ink on the backside of the ball as you're writing basically providing you with an "endless" stream of constantly flow controlled ink.

Or why not do as Parker does. They have a pen that looks like a fountain pen but isn´t ;)

Yeah well, not going to see much usage by me neither. We're back to very expensive and non refillable cartridges in that new "5th" technology writing, no thank you there ;)

I think it is awesome, though.

"how do I know what I think until I write it down?"

Voted no, because I'm not convinced of the technology -- not after Home Depot failed in three attempts to computer match mixing paint for the trim on my windows.

Besides -- the quest for the perfect ink is too darned fun  (the latest quest is for the "ideal" red...).

I thought it was meant to go live on the 7th July on Kickstarter. I'd like to see it actually working but they haven't uploaded any video content yet, which seems a bit strange.

I'd guess they're still trying to flush out problems with it. That's going to be a NASTY engineering challenge. I wouldn't honestly expect to see it any time in the next year or so actually hitting hardware, but I could be overly pessimistic. I really want to play with one, mostly for the "dude, that's AWESOME!" factor it'd have. :D

I signed up for their mailing list, just for the potential 20% discount ;) I don't know if it's the end-all solution for writing, but if they can engineer such a beast, i'd be tempted to buy one just because I'm that impressed by the technology.

Only maybe if they had a shuffle option that could be set on random when you wrote and then it would keep changing until it went through all 16,000,000 colors!

The "maybe" parts would depend on the nib and the cost of the ink.

BTW, if it's only digital then my answer is ---> NO, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How boring would it be to have to give up on the perfect ink(s) quest? Half the fun in finding the inks you love is that you have to find them in the first place. Not to even mention the fact that this is a digital product.

The color matching will only be as good as the colorimeter, which not be that good. Add that it uses a four color process ink set it will have a very limited color space compared to FP inks. It would be nearly impossible to recreate a color like BSB.

Karen Blixen once told a great story of a king who had a beloved vase with the most wonderful colour, so he asked painters to come and reproduce it - if they could, he would make them rich - if not, they would be executed. Many painters tried and faild - and lost their head, and soon no one dared to enter the contest. Finally a young man came who was convinced that he could match the colour perfectly, but he told the king that he would need to be alone with the vase for a day in order to succeed. The king agreed on the terms and left the young man alone with the vase for a day - and at last, when the king entered the room, he was surprised to find that the young painter had really matched the colour perfectly. So the kind decided to throw a big party to celebrate, and in front of all the guests he asked the young man how he had done it. "Well", said the young man, "I will tell you, but only if you promise that It will not punish me in any way for my method!" The king agreed, and so the young man reveiled his secret: "I could not match the colour, so I simply painted the vase"

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
