Hero 616 "doctor" : A Scam In Progress?

I recently received several blister packed 616's label "Doctor". However, on examination they were identical to the regular 616s meaning that these pens did not have the shortened section that permits a larger aerometric ink sac to be contained in the barrel. These newly arrived pens seemed to be the regular 616s repackaged as the 616 "Doctor"

Let me hasten to add that these supposed "Doctor" pens write extremely well and have no quality control failures. Never the less, I would like to know if we are witnessing a scam that sees the regular 616 re-packaged as the higher priced "Doctor".

The blister-pack single-unit one that I bought, along with one sold out of the retailer's ten-unit pack, have identical section length, I have never really established if the longer section signifies counterfeit, or Lishui-built units, although the latter is less likely. That said, there might be scores of counterfeit builders and they certainly would not make theirs to be exactly the same as each others'.

The first thing I noticed is the difference in line engravings on the caps; the single-unit example has deep engraved lines down the cap and is immediately noticeable to the touch, that on the other is not so. This may or may not be a definite proof but it's what I can say from first-hand comparisons.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

I enquired of YesPen (the seller I've bought all my Hero pens from to date) regarding the new colours Seele let us know about. He says he's seen them, and if he can get then, will sell them from his eBay store.

ps - the gold capped 'old stock' 616s he also sells come in a Hero hard case rather than a blister package, and have a gold coloured nib too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
