Did I just buy a Targa slim 1005s? In some photos it looks like one of my Classics but I'm not 100% sure if it was worth $40.

I had a dog in for #74 but was sniped at $58. Dagnabbit!

Your language is SO much better than mine when that happens to me. You will be my model and I will try to be better particularly since it is Sunday.

Bruce,

:notworthy1:

Now could someone explain to me why I always want the ones I definitely can't afford? Can you say #84 :puddle: .

I have the regular 1005 with a pencil & pen that I paid twice the amount for but it didn't have personalization. It looks like the regular Targa to me but sometimes with photos it is hard to tell. They should open it and show you the converter.

Well I bought my first listing and I have no clue what I've got but I think it is gorgeous. I bought #84. :bunny01:

Good idea, I'll send them a message now. Hopefully it'll be a classic.

I put what I though was a low bid and ended up winning #88. Guess I'll be learning how to resac a Conklin ringtop. Thanks as always for your time & effort posting these :)

Slim. The clutch ring is too close to the section/barrel junction for a full size. It should still be a nice writer and I would be very surprised if you could buy that set anywhere else for $40. I guess I should have mentioned that in the listing but honestly, it just didn't dawn on me at the time.

It's an Eversharp desk set, I am pretty sure the pen and base came together. I don't know the actual value but I watch the desk set listings all the time on Pendemonium and I don't think you would buy that set anywhere for what you paid for them. If it Screamed Art Deco! any Louder, it would explode. It is one

of the most wicked cool desk sets I've seen in a LONG time.

Why don't you snip the pics and post them to the Wahl (Eversharp) forum and ask the mavens there. I say snip them because that set is That Cool IMO and the Ebay listing and pics will drop off in a couple months. I'd like to see what they have to say about it my own self.

That set PEGS my Wicked Cool Meter. (In fact it pretty well turns it into a fan. :P )

In return for me not mentioning that it was a Slim, I will ask in my bedtime prayers that it come with the converter. ;)

Was watching #17, but got sidetracked by laundry before I could put a bid in. :wallbash: It went for not much more than I paid for mine. Except of course that's not counting the cash I'm going to have to drop to get mine fixed.... :roller1:

That certainly would have counted for at LEAST two of three for the "3 Sucky Things" thread.

Yes, well, that's all very well and good. But if I *had* bought that pen, I'd just have that much less to spend at DCSS in a couple of weeks, wouldn't I? :o

Besides, I've gotten a hankering for a burgundy Shadow weave, er, Wave.... (The first one I ever saw listed was a burgundy one, and it shure was purty...).

Unfortunately, at the moment, while the mortgage (the first one, anyway) is paid off, the cars are decidedly *not*. And the school taxes (which are worse than the local and county property taxes -- combined :yikes:) are due before the end of August. Not to mention COBRA insurance payments -- *that* check has to go out tomorrow, I think. Sigh.

So DCSS is already dipping into discretionary funds, even *before* the three bottles of Akkerman ink. And I want need to get a bottle of Diamine Emerald. And a bottle of Iroshihzuku Yama-guri. And....

Doomed, I tells ya. I'm just DOOMED.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
