Dc Fountain Pen Supershow - 2014

Recommended Posts

I want to start a thread on this year's DC pen show for a couple of reasons. First, I'd just like to open up a thread for anyone to post pretty much anything the want (or ask any questions) pertaining to the show. Let us know if you're going, what you want to see, what you're excited about, who you want to see, salacious and/or libelous rumors, etc. Hopefully we can build up a nice chunk of information before the show.

Second, I have a question of my own regarding the show: I know the show is August 7th to 10th, with the 7th and 8th being "pre-show days." In prior years I've only gone during the last two days. What happens during the "pre-show" and is it worth going on those days?

I think there are a few competing threads Beckwith. It's worth having a look. The Preshow includes less crowds and routine sales by the bigger tables and stores. It is steady but time to talk and no ones elbows in your ribs. There can be some relaxed chats, pen repairs and nib tuning work is done and some trades can always happen amongst the willing.

Product is at times limited at tables so the early bird gets the worm.....thus the Preshow.

Have fun and good luck with the show and with many more pictures and updates to your thread.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

The web site seems very confusing to me compared to the Philly show and others. Where/How do you get tickets to the early days? Can you buy them at the door or do you have to buy a trader's pass? So confused since this will be my first show.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
