Australian Roses Painting Alternative?

........

Recommended Posts

Aye iv been using black swan in australian roses(the old one), and apache sunset to paint galaxies, entheogen, etc.

i was wondering if there were any inks that come close enough to the original australian roses that i can still get a deep purple burgundy black, which easily lightens up to a soft purple as i am on my last bottle of original australian roses and have reserved it for painting only as to make sure i will never waste it(and have to carefully map out all my paintings so i don't waste the stuff). Obviously I need an alternative as such an ink is ideal for painting cosmos, entheogen, and such.

Just for a quick reference

heres a pic of a quick demo i did of the ink when i first discovered it like a month ago

also fyi the yellow parts are apache sunset which i also brushed over some parts that were straight up australian roses to make it look a little more saturatedhttp://i.imgur.com/i6SUTci.png

i apologize for my poor ink painting skills and the photos bad lighting and pixelation(had to resize it several times over just so it could fit in here)

Hi DrySumi,

The Goulet's did a video comparing the old and new formulation of Black Swan. Of note, they highlight inks made by other manufacturers with similar color to the old formulation. Unfortunately, to my eye, there doesn't seem to be a competing ink with the same saturation and shading properties.

If you find a retailer that is still carrying the old formulation, please post the link to this page. I'm looking for a couple of bottles of the old formulation, myself.

Cheers.

Diamine Cult Pens Deep Dark Purple shares some/most properties of the original BSIAR--not an exact color match, of course, but closer than I expected.

I was able to score a bottle of the older Australian Roses on the 'Bay, and it looks very similar to Pilot's Iroshizuku Yama-Budo (Wild Grapes). The latter is quite a deal more expensive, however. And it doesn't have the black component, despite being dark. Maybe you could try mixing black with the Yama-budo, if you decided to go with that ink.

Please excuse the crappy iPad photo, but it's what I had on hand for a quick share.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
