Kaweco Sport Classic Vomiting Ad Converter Problems

Hello FPN friends.

I currently own a Kaweco classic sport and A Kaweco classic sport Calligraphy set.

I do like those pens. they are small and funny, one is always in my pocket.

The one I use with cartridges does not cause any problems.

The one with the squeez converter does.....

First of all be careful when pulling the converter out. I Once pulled outthe ink sack. The metal ring is slippery.

Sometimes after filling the converter the pen starts vomitiing ink. I take a cloth and clean the nib. Usually this helps but not always... any ideas how to solve this problem

How can I completely fill the converter? I can only fill a third of the ink sack...

Have you had any experience with the above mentioned problems

Regards

Peter

There have been more remarks about the converter. It seems you can fill it up completely with a syringe but even then, the capacity is not more than a cartridge. The classic can easily used as eyedropper with an additional O-ring to be sure.

Thanks Erpe

Cartridge is one option, I like the Kaweco black ink.

Eyedropper mode I will have to search for the O-ring and silicon grease... Might work out well. definately do not like the converter...

If memory serves Brian Goulet has an instruction video on his website on how to convert the Sport to an eyedropper. I don't think he bothers with the O ring.

If the sac came off, then that may be some of the cause of your problem. Did you glue it back onto the sac connector? If you didn't, air might leak in. That would also affect filling volume.

I made my own "converter" (never leaves the pen) from a rubber sac and the nipple end of a cartridge. It's ridden in my jeans pocket everyday that way for the last four years without a single problem. Plus you can squeeze the entire sac with both hands and get a full fill, none of this squeeze bar nonsense.

Hi all,

Home-made 'bulb-filler' instructions on this video:

I have the new converter made by Kaweco (only came out in the last few months, see pic below from Kaweco website). It's a simpler construction than the original, without the metal frame and squeeze bar, and I find it works pretty well - better than its predecessor. The metal 'sleeve' is long enough to grip and remove firmly, and so far it delivers ink to the pen without issues. At $3 or $4 from Anderson Pens, JetPens etc, it's worth considering...

That would be a better design in a way. The bar often does interfere with filling the sac completely.

I had the old converter for a few days before I lost it - and have to confess I was pretty unimpressed. It didn't fill very well at all. This really does seem to work better.

That is indeed the video that I was referring to.

There have been many complaints about the original filler.

I don't think Kaweco realised there would be a demand for fillers, so the original filler was put together quickly.

The 'new' design filler looks like an upgraded version of the DIY bulb filler with a sac that will last. So at least Kaweco monitor what is happening and improve on the DIY idea with a decent filler.

Now if only they would make a reasonably priced piston filler like the original Sports.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
