New Herbin 1670 Ink

Recommended Posts

Howdy all, I've heard that there's going to be another anniversary ink from herbin but in grey, complete with the gold particulates we know and love.

Does anybody know any more about it? Is it darker than gris nuage?

If they're doing a grey with built in sheen, I for one will be happily snapping up a bottle or three.

I'm hoping the grey will have a silver sheen....

I wanted a grey with silver sheen, but I'm not complaining if it's in gold haha.

I found this:

A New J. Herbin 1670 Anniversary Series Ink just Announced, Gris orage aka “Stormy Gray”

Posted on July 10, 2014 by PPIL Worker Peoples in Blog, Featured, Ink, News

To be released later this month in France and sometime in the Fall in the US, Gris orage aka “Stormy Gray” will be the third ink in the J. Herbin 1670 Anniversary Series. The two already out, Rouge Hematite and Ocean Blue have become instant classics and their packaging sets them apart as the anniversary series.

No pictures have been released but Leah Hoffmann of Quo Vadis USA spoke with Exaclair President Christine Nusse for a brief description. “It’s a shimmery gray with metallic particles. Those particles are actually gold, not silver, but because of the color of the ink, the effect is silver. Sounds intriguing, right?”

I can’t wait to see this one in person! How do you think the new one will fit in with the other two?

Glad to hear they're sticking with the metallic elements. Now if they could only add some silver sheen to the incredibly boring ink that is Bleu Ocean…

I am game for a bottle or two. If it is a dark grey that can be used for daily writing would be awesome.

I love Rouge Hematite however not really practical on a daily basis. Ocean blue though is in my Visconti Wall St. right now.

Ooooooo I am so excited! I was going to make a diamine order but I think I'll hold out for this instead.

I hope it's darker than gris nuage, although I love that ink, it's a little too light for everyday writing.

I'm one of those people who wanted the Bleu Ocean to have silver particulates, but a grey ink with the gold sheen of Rouge Hematite? Hmm, that definitely sounds like a must-have. Well, it suits my fancy anyway :P

Here's to hoping it's as good as the mental image I have cooked up!

+1 on that. I remember the hype when Bleu Ocean came out. The Goulets took their website down for updates, then brought it back up so everyone had an equal chance at the piranha feeding frenzy. Got a sample of it (along with some other inks -- had the wish list all ready to go), and then was vastly disappointed. If that had had metallic flecks the way Rouge Hematite had, it would have been a winner. IMO.

I'd like to see this when it comes out. I found Gris Nuage way too light to be useful (even though it was pretty) -- and fairly drippy an ink besides.

I really like Rouge Hematite (I have the original formulation). But given the issues they had with RH with clogging, and that it went through a couple of different formulations (including one without the metallic) I wonder that they're trying again....

I have a bottle of R. Hematite with the gold suspension, and still have about 95% of the ink (only filled a TWSBI 580 out of it maybe 3 or 4 times). Since the reformulation, I'm not likely to be using this too much, methinks. I'll be keeping an eye out for the new 1670 Anniversary SE colour, but all things considered, I'll keep my expectations at a reasonable level.

... Still am really curious though :P

I personally really like Sailor bottles for their reservoir. The Parker Penman bottles also look really good, but those'll be harder to come by :P

if I remember correctly if you want penman bottle you need to find Hero inks... but we don;t have any source for Hero pens either way...

Sailor bottles are too shallow for my big nibs. I'm eagerly awaiting this and saving empty Iroshu bottles

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
