Sorry, just to clarify for those that didn't read the earlier posts. That would be Thursday August 21st.

Is there anyone that that time/date wouldn't work for? If so, that's totally fine. In fact, I'm wide open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Jordan

I have a lot of commitments popping up this summer but will happily join in on the fun if I can. Sadly I become a child transportation specialist over the summer.

Ok, well I hope you can make it, but I understand. Child transporting is important :) I'll try to nail down a time/place soon so you can have as much planning time as possible.

We're looking at getting a hotel. What general area?

I think it'll be best if it's close to downtown to be as central as possible. So any of the hotels downtown close to the lake should work nicely. We might even use the Hyatt or Marriott restaurant. Would that work for you?

Thanks!

Ok, that's good to know. Would a Saturday be best for everyone? I could make that work.

Thanks!

A sat would probably be best.

WTB Sheaffer Balance oversized with a flex nib, semi flex, broad, or medium in carmine red or grey striated.

Ok, let's shoot for a Saturday. Is the 23rd good for everyone?

Also, I was thinking about creating a meetup.com page, but would a facebook group be an easier way for everyone to connect?

Thanks!

Weekends are better for me as it's a 3.5 hour drive to Austin! (Unless I'm driving...) Facebook group would be preferred by me.

So, what's your point?

(Mine is a flexible F.)

Ok, great. I'll setup up the FB group when I get done from work today or tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!

If we were to meet midday, some of the out of towners could go home and skip the hotel. Just a suggestion. This looks like it could get complicated. I'm excited! Don't know what happens at such an event, but I have pens and ink to share. I mean give away.

Oh, that's a good idea. Yeah, midday would work perfectly for me. I also have a couple things for a giveaway. I have a loose set of ideas for the get together. I'll definitely be bringing the majority of my pens :)

Hey guys,

I'm sorry, I got swamped with a work so I've been a bit slow getting everything together.

So, if we have the event on the 23 at 2pm in downtown Austin, how many people can make it? Can I get a head count?

Thanks!

Ok, great!

Here is the location where I've made a reservation:

Hyatt Regency Austin
208 Barton Springs Rd
Austin, TX 78704
We'll be meeting at 2pm on Saturday 23th. I got us a section in the restaurant that is partitioned off so that we and indulge in our addiction :)
I'm excited to meet you guys!
Anyone else know for sure that they'll be there?
Thanks!

Super, and thanks for arranging. We will bring some pens for trading--namiki vanishing, some others-- and some ink and old pens to give away. Or could sell a special edition Shaeffer Balance and a Krone sort of plain but Harlequin looking one if anyone is interested. Also have a couple of the old Levenger desk pen holders. And we have some business cards from Luis at The Ink Flow here.

Really looking forward to it!

No problem at all! I'm excited to get this going into a strong group. :)

That's great! Thanks for your support. I'll also be bringing a lot of pens. I look forward to trading, selling, and possibly buying some pens :) It'll be nice to get to know everyone as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
