Hello everyone,

I wanted to gauge how much interest there would be in an Austin meetup. Maybe bi-monthly? I would be happy to organize it, and could start a meetup.com for it if we had a few people that were interested.

I know I would be interested. :)

Let me know if you're in.

Thanks!

Jordan

Awesome!

That's 3 so far. I think if we can maybe get to 5-10 I'll go ahead and start it up. I know of a few places where we could meet at, but I'll get a general consensus first. Maybe with a Facebook group or something.

I'm looking forward to meeting. I have number of new additions to my collection that I'd like to show off :)

Thanks for chiming in!

Awesome! Looks like we have a little group together.

I'll start finding a good venue while we wait for a few more attendees.

As for timing, I'm thinking about starting it up in mid August. But does anyone have a preference?

If we start in August, it gives whomever wants to attend, a chance to go to the Dallas Pen Show in September and then our next meetup would be sometime in October? Just a thought. I'm sure I'll go spend money on yet another pen that I have absolutely no need for and inks of yet another shade of.....blue.....lol.

BTW, I'm stupid...are we supposed to bring our pens to these things or what? I've never actually been to a Pen meetup. :)

So, what's your point?

That's a good point.

I'm really looking forward to the Dallas pen show.

I want to go to a pen show so bad that I almost impulse-bought a ticket to the DC show, then decided it wasn't a good idea this last minute. :)

Let's loosely plan on mid August as long as everyone is OK with that.

As for how the pen meetup works, I've never been to one either :) I'm certainly open to suggestions.

I'll be bringing a lot of my pens and related items. I'm also going to bring some books, as I've been trying to learn about a lot of pen-related things: Spencerian, Italics, Pen repair, vintage pens, etc.

Where would you guys like to meet? I was thinking it might be nice to get a secluded room at a restaurant or something like that. I know of a few good places.

That won't work, 'cause ya'll will be coming to the Colorado Pen Show in Denver in October :)

Kidding aside - we hope any of you who can will come to the Colorado Pen Show (11-12 October).

It sounds like you're off to a great start - we kicked off a very informal pen group in Colorado a couple of years ago and have had a great time.

Keep posting and if I can swing by on one of my trips to Texas, I'd love to meet ya'll.

The more I know about computers, the more I like my pens.

Hehe, yeah. I'm actually planning on doing a lot of "pen travel." I used to travel for business a lot, and it was always stressful. I can't want to start traveling for pens. It'll be a lot more fun and relaxing :)

Hmm, I know it's a weekday, but is the 21st open for everyone? I'm thinking at 6-6:30pm at a destination TBD.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
