Paper Addiction

I feel I'm addicted to buying notebooks that are on special offer. In the last month I've bought :

A dozen Clairefontaine FN size notebooks on a buy-one-get-one-half-off deal. Good for my Davis Leatherworks cover.

Two Rhodia business spiral notebooks. Buy one get one free.

Two Leuchtturm1917 A6-ers and a Master size notebook all more than half off.

Two Rhodiaramas, half off.

Ten pads of Basildon Bond for $12.

Two Crown Mill writing sets at 75% off

Either I'm stocking up for the zombie apocalypse or I have a problem. Pretty sure I'll get through it all(I go through those little CF 1951s about one a month), but my better half thinks I've lost a screw somewhere.

Anyone else have this "problem"?

I guess... I've gotten myself two reams of 100gsm paper (one is almost gone after I've been giving it out, the other, hardly touched), tons of loose-leaf Muji paper in A4 size, 200 sheets in A5 size, two Rhodia A5 pads and one Rhodia A4 pad.

One and a half pad of foolscap paper for letter writing completes my paper collection.

Guess what? I doubt I'm gonna stop buying paper. Sigh. Deep in this poison I am.

I am similarly afflicted, although my stash runs to paper and envelopes rather than notebooks. I was recently told about the Le Typographe brand (from Belgium, available from several online sources) and added it to my mental wish list.

I am but I won't admit it. If I do I have to stop buying paper.

And here I sit just dreaming of a fifteenth of what you have :(

We have nothing in South Africa. I literally had to call over 20 places, and Clairefontein, and Rhodia, and and and. Eventually I found a little publishing house that stocks limited Rhodia stuff. Made my first purchase, so I eagerly await my first taste of premium paper.

After my YouTube abuse over paper, I could honestly see myself opening a shop of the stuff. Love every aspect of it!

I like notebooks of all sizes and 8½ x 11 notepads. And I'm perpertually curious about the FP-friendliness of paper. I'm not sure it's a problem. Well, I've probably overbought composition notebooks. Anyway, whenever I'm in a store I haven't visited before and I'm unlikely to visit it again and it isn't a paper store per se and I find notebooks or notepads I know or suspect or hope will be FP-friendly (Clairefontaine or Rhodia or "Made in Brasil" and sometimes "Made in India" or "Made in Egypt"), I try to buy one of each such product I might conceivably find a use for. If it's a paper store with a large selection of FP-friendly (or suspicious) products, I give myself an arbitrary limit and buy my limit. When Mrs. Bookman first saw this approach in action she handed me one of those newfangled plastic milk crates after we got home and sternly advised I limit myself to what could fit inside. I interpreted this limitation broadly (it had an A3 width and my biggest notebook/notepad was A4) and bought three more crates. I have imposed a two-crate limit on myself, and I'm at my limit.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

Me! In the past two weeks - Two Clairefontaine ring-bound notebooks (one A4 and one A5), one pack of Maruman Looseleaf (100 sheets A5), 3 Apica notebooks, 3 Kokuyo notebooks and a Midori color paper notebook in brown. I'm also planning to purchase some pink pearlescent card paper soon.

Wait 'til they hook you on the hard stuff & you have a heavy Tomoe habit

I tried Tomoe, but just wasn't my thing. I figure I'm more into heavy French stuff.

I wouldn't call myself a paper addict however being a pen addict I do use decent paper;

From what I think I own:

10 black and Red books of various sizes some partially used (A6 to A4)

6 Moleskines ranging from cahiers to notebooks

4 Oxford Collage pads

2 Collins ideas books

1 leuchtturm1917

6 Various other cheaper books

However as is the case with ink I probably own enough to see me through the next 2 decades!

What do you think of the Midori Color Paper Notebook?

I just ordered some from Jetpens (the pink, purple & blue) and I am looking forward to trying them out. I am concerned about feather, bleed through, etc. though. Could you share your experience please?

Also, pink pearlescent paper sounds amazing! Link please!!! ;)

Oh and to respond to the OP...

I have had a "stationery" addiction since I was able to hold a pencil in kindergarten. Any paper, journals, notebooks, papers, stamps, stickers, pens, markers, etc. (in short anything I thought was pretty) I collected.

I can't believe it took me until last year to really discover fountain pens. I am a writer, and I adore books and so of course as a lover of all pretty papers, cards, pens, etc. this is the perfect hobby (life style!) for me.

I think at the moment I have around 20 different fountain pen friendly papers, cards, notebooks, etc. I just tried Tomoe River for the first time - and oh the sheen!!! I typically prefer heavier papers (even card stock) but I really enjoy having a variety of paper weights, textures, colors, sizes, etc.

I have a personal goal to write at least 3 letters a week and so love different papers for that purpose. I do need to find some affordable envelopes that are affordable and look good. (I like the baronial style, but I need bigger ones, the ones I have are too small; I don't always want to fold my papers a lot because I hate the messy creases....I think I want something larger, maybe A7 or A9? I don't know what size number exactly, but something to fit an A5 page unfolded, or only folded in half.) If anyone has any good suggestions please send them my way! :)

I love to find new papers and notebooks that meet my personal style, but I am choosy what I buy simply for practical cost concerns. With that said, we can easily justify something based on how much we want it. Or at least, I do that. ;)

All of which just has me wondering: are there haul videos in the pen world?

I'm not affiliated with ANY of the brands/retailers/shops/ebay sellers/whatever I mention or recommend. If that ever changes, I will let you know :)

Looking for a cheap Pilot VP/Capless - willing to put up with lots of cosmetic damage.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
