Mixing Platinum Pigmented Inks?

I'm wondering if anyone has done this?

Platinum Pigment Blue + Platinum Pigment Rose Red to create to sort of Pigmented Purple? Does it work?

My Pens/Nibs (inked/active): Lamy Studio/Vista/Joy (XXF slight-flex custom | 14k EF | EF | F | 14k M | M | B | 14k 1.1 custom | 1.1 | 1.5 | 1.9), TWSBI Diamond 580 (F | Pendleton BadBoy | Zebra G | F.P.R. semi-flex), Pilot Falcon EF, Penkala Vintage 14k semi-flex, Pilot Parallel (2.4 | 3.8 | 6.0)

http://www.fp-ink.info/img/button.pngI'm still looking for help/data/supporters/sponsors for my Ink Database - It already contains over 900 Inks but is still low on data about the inks except on the Inks I got myself or where I found nice data sheets. So Im looking for these: InkSamples mailed to me, Permissions to use InkReviews - preferable by people who have a lot of InkReviews online, InkReviews mailed to me so I can scan them, Sponsors that will help me to finance InkSamples, People willing to trade InkSamples (list of available Inks from me is available via PM request - please include available Inks)

It's been a while since this was posted, but maybe someone has tried since the original poster asked this question? I'd be interested to know myself.

I just got bottles of each, and am happy to say it does. I let the mix sit 24 hours in the 1cc syringe and didn't see any settling, just uniform purple. It's a 1:1 mix and a nice dusky purple. About as much contrast on the page as the blue. Not quite as dark as Herbin Poussiere but the color is close.

Here's the setup. I used the nib unit (only) from a Preppy as it's easy to clean. Not easy to write neatly with. I wish I had the Sepia to mix as well but couldn't afford it this time around even at $14.50 a bottle on sale. It and the black got some bad reviews for being too light and too feathery, respectively. The blue and rose seemed better regarded. Waterman brown mixed with some blue (3:1 or so) is a nice purple burgundy and the Sepia might have done the same. OTOH, Sepia is more yellow than Waterman Brown, so it might just make an ugly grey.

Anyone else can now have more confidence that mixing will probably work, if they have all 3 colors and want to show us another combination.

I'm thrilled, since I'm not crazy about rose on its own but that purple is my kind of shade. I'll put it in a Pilot 78G and post in a few weeks or months of not maintaining the pen if I have any issues.

Possible concern, some red pigment seems to settle out after a day or two. It mixes right back in with any agitation.

The settling of pigments is probably quite normal. You should see that in the bottle too. My Sailor Pigment inks do that too and the Herbin ones with gold flakes do settle too. In the end it is solid pieces in water.

I haven't seen it in the rose or blue bottle, but then it wouldn't have the kind of contrast that red against purple has so it would be easy to miss. Glad to have a vote that the purple should be OK.

Whatever settles must go back into suspension very quickly because I haven't caught anything sticking to the bottom of the bottle when I invert them. I was expecting something like more the opaque Noodler's behaviour.

Let the bottle sit for 1-2 days, then carefully lift it straight up and look from the bottom, you should see patches that look different at some places, lighter than the actual ink or darker, that is the settled pigment. Turning the bottle upside down will almost certainly get it back to solution.

Settling pigments are a sign to you however that you should regularly use the pen to make sure the ink channels do not get blocked by pigment.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
