Wonder if any of you know when or how frequently does Pilot releases new fountain pens? Especially the low to mid price range ones like the Prera or Custom Heritage 91. :)

Sorry but I don't know the answer to your question as to how often they introduce new models.

However, a pen friend of mine has recently introduced me to Pilot pens and I have to say they are extremely well made and write very well straight out of the box. I now have a Prera and a Custom Heritage 92 that I love. And there I was, a Mb user. :yikes:

hmmm I think right now they stopped making new models and concentrate on LEs and Namiki even then you have a good number of choices really... 10K yen is pretty much the competitive benchmark price for Japanese pens hence the varied models from the big 3

owner of a CH91 here my next one will be a FA CH912 I think I will find that better than Elabo/Falcon

Not true -- they released the Justus 95, with the adjustable nib, and they will release the new version of the Elite this year, too.

These in addition to the annual "collectors edition" vanishing point pen makes it a busy year for Pilot.

Justus was already out quite some years ago... its not a "new" pen...

AND IT IS WHAT IT IS the Justus 95 launched in 1979 SURPRISE SURPRISE

Clearly the vintage Justus bares its resemblance to the Custom line while the brand swanky one bares its heritage... PUNS to the Custom Heritage

Personally, I'm praying for a soft EF nib option on some of their Custom models. If the 74 started being offered with such a nib, I'd order one immediately.

because then the pricing of their pens will jack up and then no one will be buying them? do consider that each of the big 3 has been competing at price points... you will see these in their 10K yen pens Custom 74, Sailor Promenade, Platinum 3776 Century all look similar with almost the same nib offerings... except Sailor since they dont have soft nibs do they? heck you can even see this at their lower price point pens such as namely Pilot Celemo and Platinum standard PTL-5000 at 5K yen 14kt gold nib same look same almost same nib same nib grinds

^^must be the ceremony/celemo.

nope it is the Pilot Custom <-- ONLY (not to be confused with the Custom and Custome Heritage Series) it looks like the Celemo only enlarged a bit also a snap-cap with 14Kt nib sells for 7K yen it's probably Pilot's answer for the Standard PTL-10000 which sells for 10000

Be realistic about release of now models. Do they need to release new models every year...just to satisfy a tiny percentage of buyers?

Most who could not afford to buy, or even try out, each model should they ever release new models each year.

The days of Pilot, Sailor, and Platinum releasing several new models a year are gone.

Fountain pens are a niche hobby. What would motivate them to provide fantastic new models, especially at beggars prices.

Pilot must be doing okay rereleasing the Justus, Elite, Myu90....

Besides, I believe they introduced new pens recently under the ArtCraft line.

How often does your favorite automobile maker release new cars. Altima, going on seven years. Ford Focus, how many?

The question reminds me of the people who are shocked to learn that something like the Lamy Safari is a design that came out in the 80s... there seems to be some kind of fascination with having the 'newest' fashion out there or something.

They're pens... not ipods.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
