June Toronto Meet + Akkerman Group Buy Interest

Sunday, June 22

Locations will be at CAMH, 250 College Street, room 801 at 11:15 AM. I'm still looking for a better venue that won't charge us money, as I don't want to get into trouble at work! Until then, please don't mention the meet up to anyone in the building. Just walk in, take the elevator to the 8th floor, turn left, and the meeting room is right there.

I'll also be gauging the interest in an Akkerman group buy. The DC group buy made me realize that i'd like to try some more of their blues, so I know I want at least 3 inks. I don't mind buying them alone, but I thought I'd see if there is interest in another group buy of the 60 mL.

I'm only thinking out of the blue. Just a thought. Don't beat me

But I think, just think you may have too much ink. And I know you have too many better blues than what Akkerman has. Sailor makes better blues and behave better than Akkerman does. I think you own like 90% of sailor pens.

I have found a way to help you fund your inks. You should buy Sailor stock. Then when you write reviews raving about how great their shading and sheen is, should help with their sales. Hence your stock prices should rise. Then use the gains to buy inks. Win Win situation no? :P

I think I will show up this weekend.

Ohhh.. about the Akkerman group buy. I literally had a friend (from Netherlands) bringing me two bottles from the Akkerman store.......

I am still in shock of the inflated prices.. and more interested in getting some of the BunguBox and Kingdom Note Sailor inks. I can agree to a Sailor group buy, but I'll pass on the Akkerman one.

Do you still need an Akkerman Turquoise sample, cyber6?

Looks like I'll skip the Akkerman group buy. It's okay, I'll get some from Vanness at a later time. I've got a friend in BC who might be able to pick it up for me.

Someone else will have to organize a group buy for Kingdom Note or Bung Box. I've got everything from them I want for now, at least until the next Bung Box seasonal ink comes out.

Parking is on the street in the area, and on sunday at 11 it shouldn't be too hard to find on Huron, right next to CAMH.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
