No regrets, because I started into fountain pens after Pelikan and MB reformulated their iron-gall blue-blacks.

Having said that, if I can reduce the amount of ink I own I should pick up a bottle of Diamine Eau de Nil.

Montblanc Jonathan Swift Seaweed Green. I had the chance to pick it up for pretty cheap and I passed on it telling myself I'd wait for my next paycheck. It was too late. Now it's being sold on eBay for quite a bit more than I'm willing to pay.

Without a doubt Montblanc Hitchcock. :wallbash: I went to the Montblanc boutique to buy it and someone had bought the entire stock. There was none to be found anywhere and I refuse to pay $75 for it on eBay. Doesn't mean I still don't complain about it. I don't even need to mention the name in the store they just know and say we know Hitchcock. Yep, you shouldn't let creeps from eBay come in and buy every bottle so that no one else gets a chance. I've never even got a chance to try it. I might not even like but I'll never know will I? Last time I was in to buy the new Leonardo someone new slipped up and mentioned that the Hitchcock was really nice. The other staff that have heard my rants rolled their eyes and one of them kindly ranted for me on how no Hitchcock was to be had no matter how nice it was and they really needed a regular deep red! :crybaby:

My sister was in NY a coupla years ago, at Art Brown's, and what did I ask for...? Diamine Damson!!

If my brain had been awake, I'd have asked for Noodler's Manhattan Blue. That one still bugs me.

None so far. I mostly try to stay away from inks I can never get ahold from. I may kick myself yet for taking a sample of MB Blue Diamond from Amber. I did come close though. When I received my bottle of Leonardo RC last week I was going to wait to try it out. I'm glad I didn't. I love that stuff. I immediately ordered two more bottles so I won't run out.

I regret that I did not get more than one bottle each of MB Diamind Blue and Hitchcock, but I am grateful that I have them and will ration them accordingly.

I suppose my girnomous ink collection now is an outgrowth of the "don't wanna have any regrets!" idea. Mostly now when I like something that might be LE, I jump on it.

Very well put! I buy any LE (as long as I hear about it on time). I don't even have to like it... I simply have to have it. That's all....

Still for sale at the MB boutique in Las Vegas. (we only have two so you can call and get it). If not, call Dromgoole's he may still have it.

Hey, thanks! It's mostly the idea of opting for an ink I could get anywhere over an ink available in only one place that annoys me still.

Looks like FPH has all the Noodler's editions exclusive to Art Brown's, so that's awfully tempting....

One of my favorite inks is no longer sold in the US - Pelikan 4001 Blue Black. Which means I will need to do some planning in advance of the next one as it will need to come from Europe. Cult Pens or Writing Desk more than likely. Unless I am fortunate enough to find someone here in the States that has a bottle they aren't using but are willing to part with like what happened with my current bottle. (fellow FPN'r)

I don't think you missed anything. The colour is "meh" in my opinion.

Recently, Alaric gave me a sample of Tears of A Clown. I think this ink haunts me even now. I'm glad I acquired the original J Herbin 1670.

Only one that I can remember was when a local stationary shop was shutting down.

I bought 6 packs of Cross BLUE cartridge ink for a gift, at half price :) Such a deal.

Several months later I get a letter from my friend, in BLACK ink :( DRAT, I got the wrong color. And there were LOTs of BLACK ink hanging on the wall.

So I had to buy a couple packs of BLACK ink at full price to include with the pen.

But I also wasn't into ink colors back then, so I did not even look to see what other inks they had, that I might have purchased at half price.

Well I guess that is a regret but not for a specific ink.

I've had more regrets about putting off getting a pen, then it became discontinued and hard and expensive to find.

Can't say that I've ever had an ink "haunt" me for not buying it. I mostly do practical colors, so nothing out of the ordinary has really appealed.

Have had ink haunt me that I have bought, but usually just let things go if I don't feel like I have the money to purchase at the time.

Have learned that you can't afford everything, and even if you could, you couldn't use everything at once.

As such, why be "haunted" by that with was unnecessary, and was decided against in a rational decision making process?

Kind of like the 90th Ann. MB rose gold + black pens. Love the look of rose gold, and I think they look great. However, I've lived 36 years without a MB, and I'm sure I could live another 36 without one. Didn't have one yesterday, don't have one today, so, I'm no worse off than I was before. I kind of apply that same logic to inks. After having purchased lots of inks, I wind up looking at things pragmatically and not based on likes. You can spend a lot of money fast if you aren't careful.

I have been far more "haunted" by those things which I have purchased and then been highly disappointed in, or that which I wound up squandering so-to-speak or destroying through lack of knowledge or experience.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
