Try ebay.

Some shops MAY still have some NOS but you'll just have to walk in to those.

Ebay since Waterman discontinued them a while ago. They tend to go for high prices for what is initially a $25 FP.

A nice looking Red one went for a couple bucks over $30 in The Sunday Picks yesterday, it just needed the end piece glued back on, no biggee,.

The Phileas is a remarkably good, originally inexpensive pen. I'll stop Just Short of saying it has attained a small cult following <sideways glance over at

our own Waterman forum. :P > This HAS driven the prices up Much Higher than when Office Despot(?) was blowing out the $9.99 Phileas gift sets a few years ago.

I've got a new blue one with the box, never inked. I was trying to find the sales record to confirm what kind of nib as there isn't anything indicated on the box, but the nib has an "M" imprint.

I'm also not up on the protocol for conducting business here as I normally limit myself to reading.

Far be it for me to provoke the Admods, I do enough of that already, but RBR I *think* I know the rules. You can't post an ad in the Classifieds here until you are a member 30 days and have 30 non-Chatter posts, BUTTT, you didn't post here FIRST that you had any Phileas, Charles posted that HE wanted one.

I don't believe there is any rule that would prohibit you two from taking the transaction back channel, coming to a meeting of the minds there and doing the deal Outside of the Classifieds.

<Whispering; I myself find placing a Classified here a pain. I've sold numerous pens making hints in posts and completing the deal back channel via PM.>

Bruce in Ocala, Fl-I also have a Blue one and a Black one myself.

A dozen years ago (I think.), my Waterman Phileas cost me $12. It was a blue one. In 2012, it was announced that the Phileas

would be discontinued. I immediately acquired another blue one. It cost me $45. What are you willing to pay for a NOS Phileas ?

$135 ? $160 ? $185 ? So, I have one, and I don't need the money. I think it is going to cost $200 .

It was either Staples or Office Despot that blew out the Phileas gift sets about 6 years ago. A Phileas, little booklet and bottle of ink.

$9.99

Bruce, thanks for pointing out the critical stuff on the selling. I knew there some constraints hence not an outright inquiry/offer to sell by any channel untili I'd had a chance to investigate myself.

Frankly I'd never bothered to pay much attention to the pen and was surprised that they have apparently become somewhat desirable being more vintage oriented myself. I feel like mine came as some kind of incentive along with another pen purchase.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Waterman Phileas was the first "good" pen I ever owned. I grew up using the Sheaffer Cartridge Pens (cost a dollar and came with five free ink cartridges, plastic barrel/chrome cap) before I graduated to Sheaffer's No-Nonsense line.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
