Vintage Ink - Does Anybody Use It?

Vintage Skrip is some of the safest and best inks around for pens. I have used bottle after bottle of it in the past. As long as there isn't any sediment in the bottle you'll be fine. If there is, filter it out and you should be good.

Thank you for this. I picked up some NOS Skrip at a local antique shop and it appears that there might be a tiny bit given up to evaporation? No sediment, though. Now I think I will give it a try.

My mother had MANY bottles of partially evaporated Sheaffer Skrip in Peacock Blue, Black, Green and Blue. I use them quite regularly and have no problems. As long as there is no unfiltered sediment or SITB or other anomalies outside of evaporation you should be good to go! Edited by vicki92

Thanks! I'm going to ink something tonight.

I have and use some Skrip Blue/Black that is in a large bottle. As it is dwindling fast, it shades beautifully, I'd be in the market for more. Easy to clean with no bad manners.

I'll look forward to hearing more about what you may put up for offer. Thanks,

If you have the ink colors that I'm interested in, then yes I have no problems using vintage inks.

Note, I did use an old bottle of Sheaffer Skrip blue, and boy was it faded. It was light-light-blue.

I love great vintage ink, particularly the bottles. Skrip, Quink, Carter, Waterman, Pelikan, etc. I have found that some inks deteriorate with age (Parker Quink Blue-Black, 1940s), but many are as vibrant as when originally sold.

The person who has the ink owns a vintage pen store, and I would be helping him get rid of his old stock. He'll get any profit, and I'll just have fun playing Post Office! The buyers will have to pay the postage as well as a very reasonable cost for the ink.

Is this the guy in Crystal? If so, yes, he has a lot of interesting bottles of ink.

He says when people sell him their pens, they often just give him their old, unopened bottles and boxes of ink. Sometimes the ink is part of the sale. I'm hoping to move all that inky goodness into the hands of people who will use and enjoy it.

Wow that's the inky equivalent of "giving up housekeeping" - seriously, I gave up housekeeping years ago, but for my grandmother it means something different.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Housekeeping is a necessary evil in my book. But I don't understand your thought - should I just let him toss this old ink instead of putting it up for adoption?

Since you are not a "Noir" inkstress, I didn't think to add a box of this to your Toucan order. I hope you can forgive me!

Since my plan is to sell these inks at a non-gouging price, I will not be opening the bottles or guaranteeing the color or usability of the ink. Think of buying it as though you found it in a dust, dark corner of a local antique store. As others have stated, filter it and dilute it if you need or want to, for use in your pens. I bought one of these for the cool, cobalt bottle in a diamond shape - useable ink will be a bonus for me!

It's permanent black - will that mean iron gall magic? I'll post an update later tonight. Notice the price of $.39.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
