Pick An Ink For Amber --- Something You've Wanted To Really See

Sometimes, I have to mix up my inky rotation. I have received a few gifts lately, and they will be my next rotation, but I have two Pelikan m200s that need to be filled. You've seen my crazy collection of inks. pick two inks you personally have been jonesing to see in action. Maybe, I'll ink them up tomorrow.

Two pens huh? Hmmm, I think you have Noodler's North African Violet? Perhaps you can compare that to La Couleur Royale? I'm on a quest to find my favorite purple ink. For some reason I started with Noodler's La Couleur Royale.

I'll keep on struggling, 'cause that's the measure of a man.

Not sure if you have it but Diamine Saffron or Montblanc Ghandi?

Hmmm... I had Stipula Saffron and I did a mix last month.

Ghandi is a good suggestion. Tringle is going to write me a reply using Ghandi so we can compare it to a few other oranges.

BTW, if you have never tried a Stipula ink, do so, they are a great product.

I think that La Couler Royale is a nice dark purple that's closer to blue than it is red. I like it a lot but I'd like something a bit lighter but still as intense. Something closer to the legs or arms on the robot in my avatar perhaps. I feel like LCR is much darker than the robot's arms.

I recall LCR being fussy. It's an ink I don't own. I will ink up with NAV for you.

I haven't had any issues with LCR from what I've seen so far. But I appreciate you inking up NAV. It looks so nice!

Diamine Pink Flamingo :D

Three people have suggested I try it. I don't have a sample. At my last purchase, Stephanie Dromgoole suggested I try Diamine Cerise instead.

I have a sample of Diamine Coral.

Cerise looks just a touch more pink than the pink flamingo (which looks more orange in that shot). Thanks :P

This sounds interesting!

I didnt think I was a purple person until someone gifted me a bottle of OMAS purple and I tried it in a CS Winston wielding an IM nib. WOW :D

I like greens, and green black from Diamine used to be a go to ink for me. I wonder if it could be replace by Ebony purple..?

I would like to see how you get on with the Thistle powdered ink. Perhaps in a Preppy first?

I tried cleaning out my preppy. It was horrid. I just bought my son a Jinhao 699. I was thinking it might work. What do you think? I was just showing off that cool envelope.

I find that preppys sometimes develop terminal, permanent crud in the guts. The only solution is binning it and replacing it. Which is why I have never bought a Plaisir.

The Jinhao 699 should work nicely.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
