Inky T O D - Orange Ink - Do You Use It? When? Which Ink?

Oh, don't worry, I'll ask about other "serious" colors like Pink... but let's talk ORANGE.

If you use it, when do you use it? What do you like? Tell us your orangey thoughts.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

I don't yet, but I want to. I'm honestly waiting for Noodler's to make a bulletproof orange of some type. I love the look of their Apache Sunset. I may try it despite not being bulletproof.

Heck yes, all the way from orange browns to red orange to apricot to coral to peach and back. A red orange or brown orange with gravitas can pull off a page by itself. Diamine coral is a great, cheerful ink to grade with. No one's feelings were ever hurt by coral. Fuyugaki and Diamine Sunset are great markup colors for a blue or green or teal.

It does require care with the page tint, though.

I have about 10 orange inks that I use regularly. Diamine Orange, Pumpkin; Akkerman Oranje Boven; a couple from Salor...

I like orange, but then again I like most colors. I have a high tolerance for low-contrast inks so I tend to use what I like with impunity up to a point(no neon yellows even for me). I currently have and enjoy Sailor Apricot and Iroshizuku Fuyu-gaki, plus a sample of Diamine Blaze Orange.

I generally am not fond of the color orange, but I adore Noodler's Apache Sunset. I use it for the pure fun of it, the shading, even in the finest nib. It's just fun to write with.

I won't say there won't be other orange inks in my future, but I was surprised at how much I like it.

From a juicy wide nib, Sailor Apricot is delicious. Mostly used for short notes and such, as it is quite bright and would be taxing to read a page or more.

I don't use orange, but I'm interested to hear others, as I am thinking about getting some Toucan Orange.

It's a neat color, but I'm puzzled as to when I might use it.

I'm planning to use it.

Seeing that I'm located in the Netherlands it sure would be a nice touch to add a few lines in orange :)

Akkerman oranje boven seems appropriate ;)

What a strange world we live in, where people communicate by text more than ever before, yet the art of proper handwriting is seen as a thing from the past.

Diamine Pumpkin. An absolutely cracking colour that leaps off the page, but far too bright for actual writing (and I cannot draw). Occasionally I part fill a pen and play with it for a few days, wishing I could think of a proper excuse to use it.

Organics Studio Neon. It's a nice red-orange that works for me when I need a color for editing.

I love orange inks and use them for grading, notes, journaling, margin comments on research articles, cards, really most anything I write. I always have at least one pen inked with orange. CdA Saffron is my very favourite, but I haven't met an orange I didn't like.

I have a couple '90's Pelikan orange cartridges. That was a real nice color.

I have some Lamy cartridges waiting.

Herbin has an orange that many like, that is on top of my want list fro orange.

I don't know exactly if Apache Sunset is what one would call a true orange...more a red orange.

I use quite a bit of orange ink, which is a bit strange because generally I don't like the colour orange.

I have Diamine Orange, Blaze Orange, Pumpkin and Peach Haze and Iroshi Fuyu gaki.

I use orange ink for informal notes and letters, and greeting cards.

By the way - I keep seeing the initials TOD and don't know what it means. I've googled and it seems it can mean many things, from transfer on death to time of departure. Not relevant in this context hopefully. Anyone enlighten me?

Am guessing it means Topic of the Day... Just a guess though.... I am relatively new here and lurk mostly.

I have seen a few samples of Diamine Ancient Copper on this forum recently, not sure if it is orange, strictly speaking, but it does appear to have shades of and I am very tempted to place an order.

Never have used orange. J.H. 1670 is close enough for me. At least it's not pink.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
