Does Anyone Have A White Vanishing Point - Does It Stain?

I just wanted to throw it out there and ask -- does anyone have a white Pilot Vanishing Point? And if so, do you find that the barrel stains easily? I like this color but I'm worried about it getting messy.

Thanks!

Probably no more than any other light colored models. You plan on leaving ink on the outside of it after filling without wiping it?

Unless you mean staining from hand, and again, probably no more than any other lighter color.

I have a white M205 and I haven't had any staining. Just wipe it down right away when ink gets on it and you should be all set.

Great! I just wanted to make sure nothing crazy was going on with them. For some reason I have the idea that lighter colors stain easier, like they do with clothes and upholstery, but obviously pens aren't made of fabric :)

Thanks for the input!

Well they'll probably show dirt easier, but not sure how often you get dirt and grime on your pens and just leaving it there. And yea if it were fabric or had a lot of grooves and such for dust or ink to get trapped in, then maybe it would be an issue (but from the look of the VP there's not a lot of places for stuff to get trapped in being mostly smooth).

I've had a white VP for a few years now, and it does not stain any more (or less) than others in my collection. Of course, I SEE the ink much more too, so I am quicker to wipe anything off that I see. Still, after a few years of being in and out of rotation, I don't see any permanent staining or finish wear on it.

I used to own a white VP, and did not stain even with "nonsafe" inks like Noodler's. Of course, I didn't leave it dipped in the ink for ages. :P

Then again, I also had the ivory-colored Pilot Prera, and that one did stain, so I had to always wipe it with a wet napkin to get it off, so I think you've got nothing to worry about.

Of course, the neat feature of the VP is that the nib assembly is just removed from the barrel for filling, which also helps to virtually eliminate ink getting on the barrel....

Safe Pelikan, MB, Herbin inks....don't know which Japanese inks are safe.

No BSB....and I'd be wary of any supersaturated inks.

I don't have a white pen, and will not buy one.

I've had a write vp one for a few months with no issues after using it with 3 different inks. White suits the vp styling well...

  • 2 years later...

I've kept mine clipped to the pocket of my jeans for a couple years. The indigo has slightly stained it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
