Another group shot of the current collection (minus the Uranus KSF-301 which I'm not using anyways)
I put an * on the ones that I am debating on selling/trading/etc, it's too large a collection in my opinion.
Top row:
Monteverde Invincia Deluxe Nighthawk (Summer 2013 Design, Goulet Exlusive) with a Goulet 2-tone Extra Fine Nib
Platinum PTL-5000 with a Fine 14K Gold Nib and Urushi/Maki-e Artwork
Pilot Elite "Big Cap" (Late 70s, Early 80s) with an Extra Fine Nib
Pilot Metropolitan Bronze Lizard with a Medium Nib
Pilot 78G (Green) with a Broad/Stub Nib*
Pilot 78G (Teal) with a Medium Nib*
Ultra (1958 Import from Italy) with a fine partially hooded nib*
Montblanc No.225 Piston Pen with a 14K Gold Nib with Platinum Coating
Ero (mid 80s?) German Piston Pen with a "1" Nib (has some flex)*
Faber-Castell BASIC with Leather Barrel with a Fine Nib
Bottom Row:
Unbranded Green Celluloid Pen (1930s) that I put a brand new sac in, 14K "Warranted" Gold nib*
Sheaffer Craftsman in Persian Blue (~1947-1949)with a #33 Nib (14K Gold)*
Sheaffer Touchdown Admiral in Evergreen Green (1951) with a Feathertouch (14K Gold + Platinum Plated) Accounting Nib (extra-extra-fine line)
Sheaffer Snorkel Admiral (1953) in Black with a Medium 14K Gold Nib
Sheaffer Student Pen (Late 60s) with a "F" Steel Nib*
Nemosine Singularity Demonstrator with a Goulet 2-tone 1.5 Stub Nib (*well maybe without the stub lol)
Jinhao X750 "Shimmering Sands" with a Monteverde Black Coated Fine Nib
Jinhao 159 with a Jinhao Medium Nib*
Jinhao 159 with a Goulet 2-tone Medium Nib
I think I'm going to make a rule... if I require the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 lens on my Olympus E-P3 just to get all the pens to fit into the frame then the collection is too big.

Wow how much did all that cost you?

I know I had it bad at the very start of the hobby I was about £120-140 poorer. But yours seems a lot more?

Only two were even close to $100 (The Monteverde Invincia Deluxe and the Sheaffer Snorkel Admiral, though technically the MontBlanc 225 after shipping from Japan too), the rest were either at 50 shipped or less. Some were given. Below the list but with the prices as best I can remember it.

Pilot Elite "Big Cap" (Late 70s, Early 80s) with an Extra Fine Nib ($22 minus $15 Paypal Coupon)
Pilot Metropolitan Bronze Lizard with a Medium Nib ($15 + $5 for converter)
Pilot 78G (Green) with a Broad/Stub Nib* ($10.50)
Pilot 78G (Teal) with a Medium Nib* ($10.50)
Ultra (1958 Import from Italy) with a fine partially hooded nib* ($9)
Montblanc No.225 Piston Pen with a 14K Gold Nib with Platinum Coating ($66 + $25 Shipping - $15 refund)
Ero (mid 80s?) German Piston Pen with a "1" Nib (has some flex)* (given)
Faber-Castell BASIC with Leather Barrel with a Fine Nib ($45)

Sheaffer Craftsman in Persian Blue (~1947-1949)with a #33 Nib (14K Gold)* (under $40 I think)
Sheaffer Touchdown Admiral in Evergreen Green (1951) with a Feathertouch (14K Gold + Platinum Plated) Accounting Nib (extra-extra-fine line) ($50)

Keep backing up with the camera, and you can add more and more pens!

:P I only have so much room I can back up before I'd have to tilt the shooting table to be more level with the camera. :P

Very nice photo. I particularly like the unbranded green celluloid pen. From the color and cap ring there is a possibility it might be a Stratford. I have seen that combination on their mechanical pencils before.

Doubtful that it's a stratford, it's likely just a store brand dollar pen or something.

I no longer have it, I sold it to one of my classmate's mother for her graduation gift, currently filled with Diamine Imperial Blue far as I know.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
