Ordered A Newton!

My first custom pen! I just ordered a Gibby from Shawn Newton. In every way so far he has been charming and helpful. I can't wait to see my pen! Any other Newton owners, I would love to see your pens in the meantime, to keep me distracted. ;-)

Not good enough. What material are you getting? What filling system?

Oh, dear. Since I am a newbie, the ordinary cartridge/converter. Material: green mint chunk cap and pale green acrylic barrel, basically. #6 fine silver nib. Fanciful for me, but I hope it will look nice.

Better?

So, is there a place to learn more about Newton pens? Perhaps a website?

(I clicked on the thread thinking it had something to do with Sir Isaac or figs...)

And don't let it go to your head. I'm probably old enough to be your mother.

Hmm...seeing as me and this Shawn feller share a last name :P I think I need one of his pens.

Any current owners, what would you compare them to (if anything) writing wise?

And congrats on you're purchase! Post lots of pics when you get it

Oooh, lovely! What are the materials of the first two?

The first one is called Ocean's Sun - a polyester resin that I don't work with anymore, but I am trying the same color combo with alumilite.

The second pen is a limited custom resin just for the Vanness pen, it's a burgundy gold alumilite.

I have this awful habit of loving materials that aren't available anymore. Ah well, there are plenty of others.

You're from north central Massachusetts? My dad is from there. His mom had them all over the place. Framingham and Wellsley and several other places. :)

My dad's family lived in Acton, MA, but I believe they were from Ann Arbor Michigan originally and moved to Acton when my dad (the oldest of 3) was real young.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
