Multidimensional Inks

Looking for some of your favorite inks that bring more to the table than just the color stated on the bottle. Two tone effects, shading, crazy amounts of sheen etc.

Lets see em :)

Diamine Majestic Blue has a great amount of red sheen.

Noodler's Habanero for its shading.

J Herbin Rouge Hematite for the gold sheen.

Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu-syogun has some subtle light-to-dark shading

Diamine Flamingo Pink is a great pink/orange.

Hi,

The plain soft plastic tanker bottle of Ecclesiastical Stationery Supplies Registrars Ink includes a hint of mischief & adventure . . .

WOW! You can see the orange like head on vs needing to be at an angle. It's so noticeable too, thanks for sharing!

Akkerman #5 has sheen that can be seen in the 4th dimension.

+1. What's great about Shocking Blue, though, is that even though the ink has multiple "dimensions" I never feel like I'm writing with a multi-pen.

Shocking Blue shades very well and has a sheen you can't miss. Moreover, they have managed to make it acceptable for any occasion. I highly recommend this color for its tricks and versatility.

Akkerman #5 is awesome.

I've been using Hakodate Twilight of late:

Changes dramatically depending on where the light comes from.

It's your fault I had to spend the money and effort to track down a bottle!

Sailor makes some pretty cool inks that are cheaper and easier, and I use both Jentil Grenade and Kobe #37 a lot. But this one tickles my fancy more than most.

I feel sort of silly. Larry Dromgoole of Dromgooles' and Mr. Bertram of Bertram's ink well both begged me to buy this ink and I was "too smart" for that, dang, I guess it will go on the next inky purchase.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I now have this sudden desire for 3D fountain pen inks (like those kindergarten paints that puff up when dry) did anyone else have that reaction to the thread title?

Hurray for preserving my inner child, I guess. :D I wonder if there's some way we could commission something (Nathan might be willing to at least not laugh in our faces?), I freely admit that this is probably impossible but it would be so cool.

No really, he read about it weekly reader and it is coming out. It's under a hundred bucks. We're on some kickstart project or something.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
