What Have Proven To Be Your Best Montblanc Sources?

What are the best sources you have found for acquiring Montblanc pens, that you would recommend?

I have a few MBs. A couple were accessed by Aeroplan gift option but most were from authorized dealers having a sale, either discontinuing MB or, in some cases, a store closing. I feel most secure buying from ADs but I know there are lots of other good options out there.

Just wondering what have been the most successful sources among MB lovers here for getting a good deal on authentic MBs.

Approximately 50% of my MB purchases have come from eBay. If you do your research into both the pen and the seller then I think it's a safe place to purchase from. Having said this I would rather pay the premium and get the pen from my local boutique - for older pens this is not always an option though.

Boutiques, ADs, Fpn, and ebay as last resort. For the latter i tack on $100-150 on the price for repairs, and i am prepared to fight scoundrel sellers.

Boutique, E-Bay and the classifieds here.

If i want to go cheap ebay, but i'm not sure if i'll buy anything besides a 146 or 149, although i'm looking at a leather bag ;), if i want something difficult to find perhaps boutique they still have discontinued items (like the notebook holder i got) and you can order whatever is current, and if i want cheap-ish but good, the classifieds here (gotten a pen and pen holder). the main issue with the boutique is that there's 12% VAT and i believe 20% import tax on some office supplies (either that or luxury items) so a 32% tax overall for the pens, the 149 is around 1200$, although the ink has a good price in the boutique (15$ - 20$).

I have become a fan of my local boutique and I think this will be my first choice for future purchases. But I have also bought MB's from local pen shops, internet dealers, and EBay in the past.

I have heard good things about Vasco Pisco here on FPN. I forget what his handle is but he is quite well regarded among people who really do insist on the best.

Ebay, FPN classified, Pentrace classified, fountainpenclassified.com, gopens.com, penboard.de

I love buying my pens on ebay, but most of the time you have to spend another $50-$100 to bring the pen up to spec. Since I only collect Montblancs from 60's and older buying from a boutique is not an realistic option. You should stay away from ebay if you don't do your homework. Stick with gopens.com or penboard.de if you don't want to worry about your purchase. As far as buying vintage Montblancs, these two are the best.

When I really (REALLY) feel that I have to buy a new MB, I walk to the juweller where I normally buy my watches. He sells MB, but has no pens in the shop. This means:

- the pen is ordered especially for me - so it's definitely "new"

- the price is ridiculous, because he calculates it like the watches I buy, so I get my usual discount

But to be honest: this does not happen too often...

There are no facts, there is no truth - just a data to be manipulated...

E-Bay (with homework & research) and FPN. Descriptions on here tend to be more detailed and honest.

How do you check that the MB pen you want to buy is genuine?

This is why I have waited for sales at authorized dealers: I figure you don't have to.

boutique sales and careful eBay shopping are my primary sources. for something new that is not on sale, I use ADs to avoid tax, shipping, and get a discount of MSRP. Not an option everywhere in the world, but plenty of choices in the US.

I assume you're talking about ebay here. I usually know whether it is genuine or not. However, if the pictures are poor and I buy a fake, then I get all of my money back

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
