Help Identifiying A Doric; Junior Maybe?

Hi,

Just looking for a little help really as I'm finding it quite difficult to track down any info on my Eversharp.

Looking around on the net its hard to find any sizes for the Doric range, I think mine might be a Junior judging by its size but cant be completely sure (anything looks small in my hands  ). I did see a post on here (now cant find it) where Wahlnut put up a picture of the cap bands to identify the ranges and the junior was different to mine....confusing! Richard Binders site has some useful info but cant see my actual pen on there.I think its whats termed as 'Garnet' celluloid or Lavender shell???. The actual pen is in pristine condition with a cracking flexy nib.

So please help a fellow out and bring me in to the light!

Sizes:

capped 118mm

uncapped 104mm

posted 135mm

barrel dia 11mm

Its a plunger fill with 14k flexible nib.

Any info would be greatly appreciated and a general price estimate as Dorics seem to range from £40 up to £500!

All the best

Ian

I classify Dorics by the cap band styles- this one being a Doric III. Eversharp referred to it as their "popular priced Doric." Since I'm a pencil guy I can tell you that as far as the pencils went, they were identical to the Doric IV except for the cap band.

These were the second generation of Dorics, entering production around 1935. As far as the pencils went, some were made in the earlier Doric plastics, some in the newer "web" plastic like yours. Eversharp made some of the pencils in this series as advertisers- I have a few for hotels and such.

One of the pen guys can chime in on the differences between the Doric III and Doric IV as far as the pens went - usually it would relate to the size of the nib.

Thanks for the info there, useful stuff! I did look on Wahlnuts Pensbury Manor and found the 'Popular Priced' model but it was the size that was throwing me off a little. Could anyone pin point what celluloid it is for me please?

Thanks again

Ian

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
