HE said no such thing. YOUR COUNTRY said such a thing.

I presume the $73 is the Projected CUSTOMS fees, NOT the postage, that's $19 for insured (to some amount with Intl priority anyway)

(EDIT; The Better question is how in the heck are they Projecting what the close price/resulting customs fees will be? )

It is very likely that if you send the seller a message in writing and say you are willing to take the full responsibility for uninsured small packet that he will agree to the much cheaper postage. I got such an agreement just this week. The stuff will still get there 99 44/100% of the time.

We in the U.S. Don't Have the charges you are complaining about.

Hi,

I just made an account to let you know: thanks! I picked up that P45 flighter. Hopefully it'll be in good shape--looked alright from the pictures, maybe it'll need a good soak or two.

Anyway, again, thanks! I appreciate your post.

YEAH!

That's what I'm talkin' about!

Ohio, just the other day I sent a FPNer pen friend of mine this info for her newly found P-45.

It really won't Allow you to put the nib assembly back together wrong. (Every pen should have a nib that breaks down that easily!)

Plunk the section and nib assembly pieces in Ammonia water overnight. There is a P-51 sized collector inside the P-45 section too. Won't hurt to bulb flush the section some too.

To do a really good job, lightly go over the feed with a toothbrush paying attention to the lengthwise ink channels.

Easy Peasy.

PS; Here is the cheapest price I know of shipped for the nicer converter for your pen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251360408674?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Bruce, this was a cool idea -- thanks. I'm sure some may cringe if it's highlighting a good deal on a pen they're trying to snag, but I think it's a great way to highlight some really good pens. I also like that you're asking for follow ups as it makes it a cool, community-kind of thing.

If you're willing, I'd enjoy it if you continued to do this. And if anyone gets the pens, maybe do a quick comment on the pen post arrival?

Kpyeoman,

It's funny how it worked out. As I mentioned, the Geeks did this when they first started then they quit. I looked forward to it every week.

I spend WAY too much time on The Bay especially for the little that I buy. I don't really need the kill to enjoy the hunt. Thing is, I know what my pen tastes are and yes, I am probably in a bit of a rut as to what areas I usually search. P-45, P-51 (U.S and UK search) Estie, Imperial, sometimes Targa and an occasional search through ALL the Waterman and Sheaffer "fountain pen" listings.

The neat thing about this past Sunday is it actually opened my eyes some to my "rut". I kept seeing Very Neat Unusual pen after Very Neat Unusual pen. That was the first colored Parker Harlequin I've ever seen for sale. There were a TON of pens there I've always liked. I could easily have gone through a couple grand yesterday. (Ok. Yeah. I admit it. I AM still twitching a little that that True Blue went for only $110. )

I won't be in such a hurry next time, I'll stop and look and read more, but I was trying to get the posts up before more of the items closed.

PS; An apology too to the MB, Visconti, ST Dupont and some of those type brands fans. I just don't know much about those. Sorry. I know there are fakes of STD and MB. I'm not up on my vintage Pels and don't know there what's a good deal or not. (Hey! I just remembered I DID post the MB travel clock. ;) )

I'd rather not post a listing about some pen I know nothing about. Thankfully there's more than enough that I DO know Something about.

So if any brand was excluded it was only because I didn't know enough to pick out the Neatest listings.

I almost did and probably will throw in some special dip pen holder, there were some INSANE ones of those.

Oh wow, thanks for that video!

I was wondering how I could go about taking that apart...it's a lot simpler than I expected.

Woo!!

Well, she just came in. I took the nib/feed/section apart, gave em a good soak and scrub, and decided to swap the black section for a green one that I have. I wasn't sure if flighters always came with gold nibs, but this one did. Its tipping leaves something to be desired, but the writing is still silky smooth.

Like, an overachieving silk worm decided to defecate a masterpiece kind of smooth.

Thanks for the heads up on this! Best $20 I've spent on a pen, hands down.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
