Office Depot Office Max Merged - Some Stores Are Closing

So, I guess about a year ago, Office Depot and Office Max merged. Some of the stores have been slated for closing. One of the Office Max's in North Las Vegas had stuff at 50% off today, and I picked up reams of stationary for $8 each. Check your local area to see if any stores near you are closing.

Craig and MLK. The OD is on the other side of MLK also on Craig ... there could be only one.

Ah, that may explain -- at least partly -- why there's only one Office Depot left in the Pittsburgh area (used to be about 4, IIRC). Be interesting to see what happens to the Office Max stores around here. Of course the Staples closest to me remodeled recently, and is now 1/2 to 2/3 the size it used to be; the remaining space is now a men's clothing store....

It's the opposite of what happened to Sears Roebuck -- my mother used to claim that the catalog merchandise (particularly clothing) was always better quality than in their B&M stores, because the stores had to compete with every other local retailer. They went seriously downhill, IMO, when they went to stores-only, and merging with Kmart didn't really help them. Or Kmart, for that matter.

Now we've got companies getting rid of the storefronts in favor of online sales (the 21st Century version of catalog shopping).

Yes, I can say, I have stopped some of my usual sales for purchases on various online retailers.

That happened in Lafayette (Louisiana) about three years ago. All of our Office Max stores turned into Office Depot. And we don't have a Staples store at all.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
