Vintage English Waterman

Yesterday I received this Waterman as a gift from my mother-in-law, who'd inherited the pen from her mother. It's a small pen with a 14ct nib, lever filler, inscribed Waterman's made in England 512v.

 

The sac has disintegrated and should be replaced. Can anyone date this pen or say more about it?

Would estimate the pen as late 1940s and should have a nice and flexible nib. Looks to be in a very condition.

Thanks everyone. Before I write with it I must have the sac replaced. I would do it myself, only I've never done that before and don't want to start practicing on this one. Do any Dutch forum members know of good places in the Netherlands to get this pen restored? I'll ask the question in the general questions forum as well.

By all means send out to a repairer but as you already have the pen open it is a very simple matter to fit a new sac with shellac. Just google how to do it but it really is intuitive.

The pen is not open - ie the sac is unreachable without heating up the barrel. A kind Dutch repairer has presented himself, so will pursue this first

The kind and skilled Rowingbiker replaced the sac of the old Waterman, and ground the nib down just a tiny bit. The result is a smooth, fairly wet writing delicate little pen. The pen gives quite a bit of flex, although of course we have to be careful not to put too much pressure on. In the sample below I used J. Herbin Vert Empire, which I thought would be appropriate.

Ah no, the pen is definitely green. Hence the Vert Empire. I see now the first photos were off, but yesterday's give a better impression. Pale greenish.
