Birthday Pen

Lorna Reed

Recommended Posts

I've just ordered my birthday pen for this year from the Goulets. An Edison Nouveau Premiere in the new Spring Cherry Blossom colour, with 1.1 nib.

My birthday isn't until the end of May, so I hope I have enough willpower to keep it until then. The pen has sold out once, and is now back in stock, so I thought I should get my order in. Can't wait!

You'll never make it til your birthday ;)

Edison pens are beautiful and write wonderfully. I think the cherry blossom is out standing. The color is wonderful.

Enjoy :)

Please post pictures when it arrives! This pen really caught my eye; I would be crazy to miss out on it. Shipping to the UK is so high, though :(

Happy Birthday in advance.

Happy Birthday in advance.

I chose the cheapest shipping - USPS First Class International - no tracking - so I'll be keeping everything crossed until it arrives.

Unfortunately, this pen is not available to buy in the UK.

It will make it. About 10 days, but it should be ok. Tracking doesn't count for much once it leaves the USA borders anyway.

And...

Enjoy your early birthday present when it arrives. No need to wait until the actual day. It is your birthday, after all. So you celebrate for the whole month of May. More fun that way, and you don't have to spend more money, just celebrate because May is yours.

Congratulations!! I just purchased mine as well. I'm excited!

I received my pen a few days ago and it's everything I hoped it would be. I just dipped it to make sure the nib is OK, and it's now put away for my birthday at the end of May. I posted some photos under the title "Unboxing my birthday pen". Hope yours arrives safely soon and you love it as much as I do.

I was going to get myself a birthyear birthday pen, a 1940 striped Duofold, but in the last ten seconds of the ebay auction my screen went into 'rest' mode, or whatever it is called, and by the time I got back I had been sniped. I choose to regard it as Divine Intervention, as in 'it was not meant to be', and am now contemplating the choice between a Namiki Falcon or a Sailor 1911, going for a good "Everyday is your Birthday" writer...I am drawn to the Sailor, but have no basis for deciding whether the 22k nib is worth the extra money over the standard 14k nib...

but really, getting your birthday pen in advance, and opening it, isn't that cheating?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
