Ok Estieville Noobs This Deal Is For You, I've Even Done Your Homework For You

Pretty sure it's a J. I'll know and post for sure when I hear back.

Per the seller, the jewels are clean and the clip is tight. It is black. Come to find out, I've bought two pens before from this seller and he gladly takes returns. I didn't need to return mine. No affiliation just trying to help someone get a decent deal on a decent pen.

If you could get it for $20-25 you'd be doing fine.

Heck, you might even post here if you're interested. Maybe you can work things out ahead of time with others that may be interested.

Get this pen. $25 would be a fair price, and the 2668 nib is a nice medium. I've got a couple all-black full J's, two Bell Systems (one with the white marking warning off..oh, well), a Triple-A "skunk " (there is a disagreement among Estie lovers as to what constitute a skunk. I say any black pen with white marking's but others insist only a Bell System Pen can be skunky); a Pontiac pen, and a few SJ's.

This is a good pen with a nice nib. Estie made better nibs (my favorite is the 9668, but they have gotten hard to find).

Bring it back to FPN Estie-ville!

It would just make someone a nice starter Estie. I saw it sitting there, no bids, I had some time so fired off some questions to the seller.

Some here are all skeered of The Big Bad Bay, I figured getting some answers first might belay some concerns.

It's no spectacular Root Beer with a bodacious 9968 in it but if it were, you might not get it for $20-25 shipped either.

These are OK pens. The pen is a very good platform for discovering the world of Esterbrook nibs. The nibs unscrew easily and there are many out there for you to try, and most are at least affordable. Extra fines, fines, mediums, broads, italics, reliefs (left obliques), a whole world of fun. The 2668, the praises of which are sung by many, is a medium. Buy this pen and have fun. You can learn a lot about nibs with these pens.

I heard back from Carmen, the Seller. The pen is 5" long, looks and sounds like a J.

The material for the black ones seems to even stronger than the other colors. I cut a cap apart with a dremel to get to the jewel and it was no easy task. Twisting and jerking with pliers and it never cracked. I was REALLY impressed. These make a bomb-proof daily user.

I've sworn off buying any more until I get my latest one up and running. I've snagged 3 - all on ebay - in the span of 2-3 weeks. 1 restored, 1 needed a new sac, and the last needs a new sac and j-bar.

This is par for the course. Replacing the sac on a J series pen is the safe choice. I think maybe one J-bar in 4 has needed a replacement. Good idea to finish what you have and absorb the lessons particular to this type of pen and then move forward if you want to. You might decide they aren't your thing, and best to find out before you have a couple of dozen of them.

Thank you all. I'm looking forward to getting this little gem. It played out perfectly. $25 was the recommended price to

pay, so that was my max bid. One other bid on it, but apparently did not go over 25.

Now to come up with some supplies to replace the sac. Too much fun. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
