I'm looking to buy an English vintage pen and was just begining to get a handle on Conway Stewart and Mabie Todd, totally new to me, when I suddenly came upon brands like Summit, Wyvern, Croxley, even National Security.
Are any of the last four up to the standard of Conway S. and Mabie T.?
Is there some sort of "high end/ low end" rating to help me along in assessing the general qualty of these 'other' brands?
Sometimes pens of top quality but with low collector value are more available than the collectibles.

Summit and Wyvern can approach some of the lower and mid-range CSs and Swans, but to be honest their prices these days don't seem to be much less expensive. Added to that, CS and Swan pens are plentiful, so patience will reward you if you're planning on an eBay win, rather than buying a restored pen.

Good to know. Thanks.

Find a Valentine number 4.

Once I learn how to get past the love pen thing. Adding 'Newhaven' helps.

The Wyvern can have quite a nice Wyvern on the nib and elsewhere.

Burnham are worth considering,as they have some of the nicest celluloids among British pens. I've just acquired three for £4 each from a local antique shop and I'm looking forward to restoring them.

Some National Security and Rosemary (same manufacturer, I think) are absolutely delightful, but tend to go for high prices on ebay.
