The biggest are not necessarily the best in Europe where most shows are only for one day...

I will suggest two different options,

A tour for about ten days that will cover Waterloo (Belgium), Tilberg (Holland), Hamburg (Germany) and to finish in London, end September early October, you will easily meet pen collectors in the trains going from one to the other one... Then, one of the longest ones, Madrid in November....

German and Italian shows are great but usually small and short, I heard there is a good one in Poland but all depends where your are.

I hope this helps, good luck

How would one find out about the schedules for these shows? I'll be in Berlin for three months next year and it would be fun to go to a show while there.

Thanks!
Tom

There are some in Italy, some others in Spain.... no doubt...

My suggestion of an interesting option was because you can visit several shows during a period of ten or twelve days in a somehow "shorter distance"

but of course there is cost to be considered and time...

Nuremberg and Koln are certainly wonderful shows but at different dates.....

And of course, when I plan I have to think twice since I go there from far away....

Larger than American shows, let's say Los Angeles or Washington, there are none in Europe to my knowledge...

Good luck

One of the largest European shows is the London Writing Equipment Show (LWES). The show attracts all of the major UK dealers, a good many dealers from mainland Europe and of course the USA. For many years this show was organised by the Writing Equipment Society however the show is now organised by UK Pen Shows Limited who also organise six regional shows throughout England.

I would agree with Ariel's earlier post in which he suggests the Belgian Pen Show (Waterloo), the Tilburg Pen Show, the Hamburg Pen Show and London, these span from 27th. September through till October 5th. If you are around earlier in September Uk Pen Shows have a regional show in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on September 14th. Size wise the London show is probably the largest with Hamburg running a close second. The Tilburg show is next (about the same size as a UK regional show) with the Belgian show quite away behind, however last year was the first year for the Belgian show and has everything going for it.

Hope that this helps.

Enjoy your visit

I haven't been to other European pen shows to compare, but I will be attending the second annual Poland Pen Show in Katowice next month, actually in less than two weeks (April 12 & 13).

I attended last year, and while it was a small show (considering I was accustomed to the Los Angeles Pen Show), it was very good - with a film presentation about a soldier's pen that had been buried for nearly 70 years and restored and friendly, knowledgeable, very kind people and held in a cool venue (a film archive center with a small theater). Sarj and Jas were there, from Birmingham, and there was even a vendor selling Nakayas!

I'm very much looking forward to the show. Here's a link to information in the Clubs & Meetings forum, if you're interested: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/259340-second-annual-poland-pen-show-april-12-13-2014/

Eventually, I'd like to attend the other shows - in Madrid, for instance, or Barcelona. Is there one in Florence? I would love to attend a pen show in Florence.

Thanks for all your kind feedback. I've decided to go to the Nuremberg pen show on 10 May. Maybe see you there Ethernautrix? :)

ps. The Florence pen show will be held on 17 May , just a week after the Nuremberg show. Two birds with one stone?

Oh! Florence!

I'm looking at the Madrid Pen Show, as I have not been to Spain, and it will give me time to finish a bunch of projects that need to be completed.

I think I will tie in Florence too given the dovetail timing with Nurmenberg. Madrid is a long way off......

Nuremberg is a long shot (other plans and priorities), but I haven't written it off completely. Nor Florence. I mean... come on, Florence. It's been years since I've been, and I'd love to tool around the hilltowns of Tuscany, too, if at all possible.

Probably won't know until the last minute if such a trip is feasible. Sigh.

And now with sblakers showing photos of his new Romillo - where is Romillo anyway? Spain. Yeah. I'll have to look it up. The Romillo Soul seed has been planted. Dare I water it? Give it sunshine?

Hehehe, sigh.

Look forward to meet people in Nuremberg.

Was at the show at Koln / Cologne last weekend and it was great, all new space which was considerably larger then last year with lost of room to grow.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
