Still very new here and wondering if there is a GTG with some Montreal and area fellows.

Cheers,

There are enough of you to form your own. Go find a popular coffee house and start from there.

And this is the nicest part of FPN, when this happens :)

Café Italia is near where I live, but I'm not sure it could be the right place. It's all linoleum so it's noisy and there's a big in-house crowd.

Soooo... I use to live next to Cafe Italia and its not a place we can stay long and because of the crowd / area / qty of patrons per hour. I think its barely safe enough for our beloved pens. One might hit the table(s) and make a mess... Also parking is nightmarish nowadays in that area... Of course this is only my opinion and I'm not the one deciding the final location. This belongs to the group :)

i'm on the south shore of Montreal, I know of a great ST Hubert BBQ next to the Champlain Bridge ( 3 minutes) free parking, plenty of it.

I also collect watches and we held a few GTG over there. Every time was great and the food is decent as well. They are nice, also have a bar, so they sell beverages of all sort. They even have an electric gizmo outside if you have an electric car.

They are not the pushy type and we can stay for hours, as long as we end up ordering some food / beverages.

I could do a reservation.

Proposition of dates:

Saturday April 26 or May 3. around 5 - 6 PM?

Of course I'm also open to a place on the island, perhaps not everyone has a car / or the willingness to come on the South shore. Totally understandable, since I'd rather not go all the way to the North shore...

What say you O mighty Montreal penmen?

I think proximity to a metro station is a must. I still think a coffee shop would be ideal, maybe a quiet one somewhere central.

We could find something near Berri/UQAM. It's central and someone on the South shore could park on Longueuil Metro (wink wink). I used to go to the Croissant de Lune, where the coffee always was great. It's not a big place, but if we're 7-8, there used to be a big, round table.

Another way to target centrality would be to find something near the 40, say Crémazie métro. But I don't know of any good coffee around that place.

On the north side, there's a St-Hubert on Lajeunesse, near the Henri-Bourassa métro. Lots of parking spaces, and a beautiful park right in front.

For a simple place to meet, there's always around stylo.ca's shop.

If people can add some properties, I can find other places.

Quartier Latin sounds good. Croissant de Lune is fine by me. Oops it seems that according to urban spoon they are permanently closed.

Jealous. I wish I had a Latin Quarter to have meetings in.

Good luck to you all. The Ottawa Pen Posse started in Planet Coffee in the Byward Market in Ottawa.

This could be nice:

On Avenue du Parc, between Beaumont and Jean-Talon. Parc metro closeby. Pretty central N/S/E/W.

Interesting coop café, plenty of space (never been there on weekends though). The coffee is good, as well as the food.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
