Delta Unica

Has anybody seen this one in the real world already? The apparent simplicity is tempting me to modify my shopping-list.

I've not seen it, but is available in the web sites of some italian pen shops.

I'm doubtfull about it because there are no rings in the cap, where it screw in the body of the pen.

All the pens i owned without that rings in the cap, has cracked sooner or later.

I thought about that as I have several 78G's with that problem (the rings on the 78G cap are merely printed, not real rings). However, it seems the ring on the barrel will stop the cap so you can not turn it too far which is the common reason for the crack. I found an Italian site also but no pricing info yet. It is on facebook now as well.

I had a chance to handle a blue Unica for a few minutes.

The MSRP in Italy is 58 EUR (80USD) it does not look sturdy but not flimsy either.

The design is pleasant and it uses the same resin of the heavier (and more expensive Delta Serena).

What makes it special are the light reflection in the resin of the barrel. The steel nib feel (not inked) hard.

A good entry level into the world of Delta.

Thank you, could you tel if they are using the same nib as on the Serena? It looks the same in the pics but I'm not sure.

I do not remember the engraving, but from what I remember, I would say yes.

We saw them today and managed to get a few. These are indeed the same nib as the serena, and in the case of the blue pen, looks to be the exact same acrylic. These are about the same size, but lighter (due to the Serena's metal section). Nice pen, I wouldn't consider them flimsy at all, they were nicely made, and as an entry level Delta are an excellent start.

It's here now and I am pleasantly surprised, It is quite light but has enough volume for a very good grip, a combi that makes it perfect for long sessions. The (fine) nib is 'parkersmooth', that is, not glassy but rather gives a tiny bit of feedback that lets you feel the quality of the paper you are using. Searched a bit for a minus to balance my overall positive first impression but really the only thing I could come up with is that they could have included a converter. However, I had a Pelikan converter ((€ 3.50) lying around that fits perfectly. Price paid was Euro 58 / USD 80 / GBP 47. Overall: 9/10 I would consider this pen a good entry in 'The world of Delta' ;)

Pics will follow when it stops raining ( I don't like flash, prefer natural northlight)

Apparently to get the price where they wanted it they opted to skip the converter. Bummer, but many will have an extra, or an extra $5 converter isn't much to spend to complete the nice pen. Lisa grabbed one of them in Blue and it is a pretty nice pen. :)

Got one in white in Milan about a month ago. Paid 58 euros. Has been my daily writer since

Well made, plain but attractive styling, no signs of problems with cap, well designed clip with rolling ball at end, nice nib with brushed steel finish. Nib is wet, but not too wet, and functions as fine cursive if written with upside down. No real flex, but not quite a nail.

I really like it. Its probably my favourite 'reasonable price' pen- as smooth as an Italix from Mr Pen, and not so wet, and, heresy I know, better in the hand than a P51

One word of warning. Don't try to put a spare cartridge in the barrel - they get stuck

Currently offering the BLUE with 3 nib choices on MassDrop for USD$65 if it sells enough for the drop!

I'm not sure what the regular price is in the US but when I add the P&P to this, $65 is more then the regular retail in Europe.

For US buyers, Brian and Lisa Anderson are offering them at $76 plus $5 shipping. If Massdrop gets 20 or more buyers, then their price will be $64.99 plus $4.99 shipping.

I don't know what either of them charge to ship to the Netherlands but La Couronne du Compte is charging € 58,00 for a blue Unica which translates, after a 2.5% fee, to US$78.10 at yesterday's posted exchange rate. Then of course you have to add shipping.

But Massdrop is only offering the blue, while you can also get white or fuchsia from Anderson pens.

For me, LCC was € 58 ($76) incl P&P but in any case, the price-difference has to be much more impressive to lure business away from a reputable retailer like the Andersons to an unknown wholeseller.

I check the offers from Massdrop quite often, not only pens, and mostly, the prices are not that interesting. You really have to wait for the pearls :-)

This Massdrop thing upsets me greatly. As an authorized dealer, I am not able to go below $76 for these, yet somehow they can sell for $64? Then again, it is only one color and a limited number. AND we have the limited vintage red. :)

Any recommendations where to buy this from in the UK or Europe ? Doesn't appear any UK retailers are selling this at the moment.

http://www.lacouronneducomte.nl seems to stock them if anyone has had any experience with that shop ?

Except for the Italix and some second hand pens, I purchase all my pen related goods there. When I receive something, it is literally like Christmas as they wrap almost all of the items separately in gift-paper. Highly recommended, good prices and excellent service.

I would get the vintage red but shipping & customs is quite prohibitive, Maybe Dennis will get his own limited version. It also seems, the US doesn't get all the colors. I have the incandescent brown version which is apparently not available in the US.

A joy to be a customer there.

If something is wrong (and with modern FPs often there are some minor problems) it is dealt with fast and good.

The only pens I do not buy there are the one he does not stock.... and sometimes a sale somewhere.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
