Dc Pen Show

Hi All,

pencentral.com has been down for 10 days or more. Susan With's Pen Show Calendar still indicates pending rather than confirmed for the DC Show. DC Fountain Pen Supershow on FB has no update. Many attendees will need to make reservations w/ the airlines so time is of the essence. Thanks.

I have called the hotel many many times and finally made a private reservation. They see there is a block of rooms for this event but they can't get into it to reserve rooms. What is going on with the show? Does anyone know? :(

Traditionally, Bob tends to market the show later than some other shows do. Probably because the show is basically sold out before the previous year even ends :) I'm sure he'll let everyone know in plenty of time.

That's a good guess except for the fact that many people are coming from very far away and have to have their reservations in place (for many reasons)far in advance. I wish I could believe that your idea is the correct one - then I wouldn't be so worried about Bob.

I live in the Northern Virginia region, and I was planning to attend the show at Tyson's Corner. Skipped the Baltimore show, so I hope it is still on.

As an FYI, The Washington Metro rail line has a new station almost directly across from the Tyson's Corner Sheraton. The new line was supposed to be open this month, but looks like it will be delayed until later in the summer. Might make accessing the show even easier for some folks who fly into Reagan National rather than Dulles airport.

Favorite pen/ink pairings: Edison Brockton w/EF 14K gold nib and Noodler's 54th Massachusetts; Visconti Pinanfarina w/EF chromium conical nib and Noodler's El Lawrence; Sheaffer Legacy w/18k extra fine inlaid nib and Noodler's Black; Sheaffer PFM III fine w/14k inlaid nib and Noodler's Black; Lamy 2000 EF with Noodler's 54th Massachusetts; Franklin Christoph 65 Stablis w/steel Masuyama fine cursive italic and DeAtramentis Document Blue; Pilot Decimo w/18k fine nib and Pilot Blue Black; Franklin Christoph 45 w/steel Masuyama fine cursive italic and Noodler's Zhivago; Edison Brockton EF and Noodler's El Lawrence; TWSBI ECO EF with Noodler's Bad Green Gator.

That metro station was supposed to be opened by now so I am wondering what's taking so long with that. How fantastic would that be if we do have a show and the metro opens before then!

With Bob's full email, maybe there is someone that can phone him for status, and also, maybe he can post an update on his DC Show FB page. Playpen's earlier comment/post is am important point. Thanks.

Writepen, I saw Susan Wirth at the Long Island show yesterday and told her about our concerns for Bob and the lack of information about the show. She called him and the word is that things should be cleared up in a week. So, for me at least, the mystery has been solved, I'm happy he is ok and we will be able to move forward with our plans very soon!

Thank you, playpen, and I just noticed an update on the FB page for DC Fountain Pen Supershow, confirming dates (=Aug. 7-10), and mentioning subway, parking, and show website info.

On 3/14/2014, dcpensupershow@yahoo.com is typed in red (on the top of the D.C. Show ad from 2013) as an "alternate e-mail. I noticed the message tonight when accessing pencentral .com; perhaps this will assist some folks; know we all are anxious to enjoy this fine event once again.

  • 3 weeks later...

Bob was at the Atlanta show just 2 days ago- discussing/ encouraging the show (us as vendors) I too found the website to be outdated- but he is definitely planning for the show in August- no doubt about it.

Any update on the DC Supershow? The website and Facebook page have nothing about 2014.

OK, it's now May 31 and the DC Supershow website has still not been updated with 2014 information. :o I'm trying to make travel plans and also financial decisions (if no show this year, I may spend my FP savings somewhere else). Can anyone confirm that this show is actually taking place and if so, what are the dates?

Larry

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
