sargetalon, you are bonkers! I say this with confidence on the principle of "it takes one to know one".

Presumably your wife is relatively sane and that is why you can only photograph them in secret - there are some things people are simply happier not seeing.

Although modest by FPN standards I prefer not to advertise my ink collection, keeping the popular few separate since they overflowed their drawer.

She is very sane which is why I have to operate mostly underground at home. Currenlty working with a "Dont ask, Don't tell" policy.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

Nice Lizard... and the rest of the collection. :-)

I'm sure there are a few members here, that if they told their other halves the true value of their collection, would probably get an earful. $100 here, $200 there - soon adds up.

But the fact you are using and rotating the pens, is probably enough for her to know you are getting enjoyment out of writing with the pens.

Here are pics of my Gunther Wagner Travel Ecritoire which sold with the M910 Toledo (sadly, I do not have the pen). The only downside is that the pen tray is missing in the back so I'll have to figure out a way to fabricate one.

There's an absolutely gorgeous Limited Edition Pelikan M1000 at the Pelikan website <http://www.pelikan.com/pulse/Pulsar/en_US.FWI.displayShop.133843./m1000-raden-sunlight?targetLocale=en_US> Problem is that the site is so poorly designed it doesn't seem to have an option to find a dealer.post-113165-0-67238900-1400088843_thumb.jpg

What's up with this company? Seems like they are on a downhill course to disappear from the market.

That is a gorgeous pen and a quick google search will identify several dealers. At about $3000+ this one is sadly too expensive for my collection. I don't think the absence of a "find a dealer" link for an ultra limited edition pen is quite indicative of a company on the skids though. They have raised their prices lately which may ultimately hurt them but only time will tell. They've brought several new pens to market recently and are trying to be innovative with an upcoming social media event around the world so I take these all as positive signs of the company's health.

That's one of the beautiful Raden-series pens. Saw one in the flesh last year at my B&M shop. Very nice, but they do not write any better than the normal m1000 pens. I have decided not to buy pretty any more, but function. (nice if that happens to be pretty as well...)

But I must confess, that if I have to spend an indecent wad of money on just one pen, that one is high on my list....

A truly beautiful flock. Congratulations on a wonderful collection. Your pictures are a great reference for the rest of us Pelikan collectors. Thank you for showing us the way. :notworthy1:

Very nice collection! I have no Pelikans yet, but am seriously thinking about getting an M800 Tortoise. Love the look of it. Was thinking about getting an IB nib. Do you have a writing sample for your M800 IB?

My latest addition is not a pen but a nest for the flock. I have an 11 month old who has gotten quite mobile and incredibly inquisitive which is a recipe for disaster when it comes to the flock. They suddenly were put on the endangered species list in my eyes so I had to move to a more secure form of pen storage. Thought that I would post it here. It's one of the Gerstner style machinist tool chest from Harbor Freight. It will hold up to 124 pens if you outfit every drawer and even more if you wanted to put pens in the top chest where ink can be stored. Very happy so far. Here are some pics.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
