Cross Aventura

I love my Cross Aventura. This pen was my very first fountain pen. I only ever use Cross cartridges, but I should look at getting the converter. Thanks for the product number, I have to look it up.

Hiya folks,

I just bought a Cross Aventura as well. It's my first FP also. So far, so cool... waaay cool! I did notice a stinging sensation on the back of my wrist. Apparently I have been bitten by Fountainus Stylus Insectus. Good Lord, what have I done?

Warning - that bug causes people to spend high amounts of money on new pens, ink, and paper. I bought my Adventura 4 weeks ago, and have spent $300 or so on a new pen, gold nib, 3 bottles of ink, and a planner. But I still love the Adventura. Cheap, writes reliably, and it's just a good pen all around.

I have one of these pens as well. I was actually quite surprised at how well it writes for a cheap-o pen. It lays down a nice smooth line every time that I write with it. I have yet to purchase a converter for mine but appreciate the listing of the part number earlier in the thread. I think that this pen is perfect for the new fountain pen user, and can definitely kick off an expensive new addiction!

The Aventura is also my first FP.

I really don't have too many issues with it, except that it started getting a bit scratchy after a little bit. It could be the fact that I was writing on cheap lined paper in the middle of a lecture, but whatever. It still writes fairly well for me.

I gave my Aventura to one of my Employees so that his wife could try it out. I had lost this pen for over a year and gave it to him last week. I haven't missed it at all, it writes well but I always wind up inky due to that slick section... lol

Just wondering if anyone has the definitive answer as to which convertor - screw in or push on - should be used with the Aventura?

I've seen recommendations for both, but my experience is that since fitting the push on convertor the pen leaks ink all over my fingers when I write.

I've got a push in converter in mine, works fine!

Hmm... glad yours is working, might just be my pen which is the problem.

It's a shame because it's a nice looking pen, just a bit too lightweight for my liking.

Well I have had mine for two weeks. It is smooth. However, I do not like the feel of the pen outside of the box. In Staples it looked "different" in the box, it looked nicer. In my hand it feels kind of cheap and I believe it even looks a little cheap too now that I have been using it. It is a smooth writer though! So even though I am not too excited about this particular pen it turns out that it was just a "gateway" pen. The Aventura was my first Fountain Pen. Unfortunately as others have said it has lured me into the dark abyss.....I just purchased a Pelikan m400! OUCH! That was my wallet screaming! HA! At any rate I plan on keeping the Aventura at my desk at work for a knock around FP.

Hi All, The Aventura takes Cross cartridges or the green push in converter.

There is an issue with the filling system, in that if refilling from a bottle via the nib, ink gets outside of the converter, and creeps out of the joint in the chrome section.

A way to avoid this is to take out the converter, fill it from the bottle, clean around the converter with paper towel, turn it upside down, and fit the nib section, nib up.

Generally it is a light pen being all plastic, but mine has a really smooth 'M' nib, it's a great writer.

I believe it has the same nib as the Affinity, which is twice the price.

So the Aventura could be the cheapest (RRP) price fountain pen Cross sell in 2012.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
