Retina Searing Inks -- Inks So Vibrant, They Are Blinding

Amber, I really love your drawings! Thanks for sharing so much with us!

As far as some bright inks, here's a few I'd throw out there to the list:

Oranges: Pelikan Edelstein Mandarin, Iroshizuku Fuyu-Gaki,

Green: Iroshizuku Chiku-Rin (yes it should go on the list), J. Herbin Vert Pre, J. Herbin Diabolo Menthe, Diamine Soft Mint

Purple: Noodler's Bay State Concord Grape, Private Reserve Purple Haze

Blue: Diamine Aqua Lagoon, Diamine Steel Blue (dark yet bright), Diamine Beau Blue, Noodlers Lightning Blue, J.H. Blue Azure

Those are all one's I've tried and enjoy for various purposes, some writing, some highlighting.

What has caught my eye, but I have yet to try, are the Organic Studios inks. They seem to have some bright ones, like: Emily Dickinson, Neon, Nickel, Uranium, and Vanadium.

And whatever you do try, please keep us posted with more great pics!

Edit: Looking back at the whole post I realized you had a couple of those...

-Lee

Let's see...I'm going to mark the ones that I have in RED and I'll try and post pics, the ones in blue, I have never tried. I would never have thought to try "Soft Mint" because it just doesn't sound retinal searing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I love the peach, wish I would have bought this one instead of Diamine's orange. The orange is realllly bright but too light for use as anything other than a highlighter/drawing ink.

This was an inkdrop sample and the first time I used it I was sort of ho hum about it. Now a year later, I'm a big fan.

Orange: Diamine Pumpkin, Iroshizuku Fuyu-gaki

Purple: Private Reserve DC Supershow Violet

Green: MB Irish Green

Noodler's Blue Ghost (obviously only under black light)

Of course, so many of my inks are black, these seem bright to me.

Hmm.... same thing. I'll mark the ones in red that I have and I'll try and post pics, the ones in blue I haven't tried.

So, here's MB Irish Green mixed with Noodler's Blue Ghost. :)

I haven't tried either of these.

Dang it is also supposed to have the quote from RandomThinks but the user interface foiled my plans.

Surely Herbin Violet Pensee needs to be on this list

Lightening Blue was too light - so I darkened it with Kon Peki.

Okay, these weren't mentioned, but they are bright. I just don't think they are on the same level as BSB and CCC.

Okay, Neon is above. Nickel is too light to use.

I like that Nickel turquoise color, another nice one for highlighting/underlining purposes!

Maybe I'm judging the "searing level" on a different curve than you are. I take no personal responsibility if you get samples of some of those and no retinal searing occurs! :D

And, looking at the available emoticons, shouldn't this one be the official emoticon for this thread?: :yikes:

Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful retinal searing colors. I laughed quite a bit at the comments. I don't have many colors as I'm just beginning, but all the colors from the many makers do seem like such beautiful gems.

Difficult to choose in that I don't want to damage my eyes. :)

The ED Posie Pink doesn't really look pink in some pics, maybe that's my screen? But then again, we've been in deep winter here so long I probably have forgotten what a posie looks like. The swatch at Goulet shows that it's like a red-violet. That Mont Blanc turquoise color is nice too.

I've used it for quite a while and I don't think of the color as "pink" perhaps magenta or purple, but it really is that color. Here's another sample. It looks VERY similar to Monteverde Purple.

Ooo, I should add a couple more colors!

I like the QSH, though I like the Red Dragon more. I wonder what I would use the retinal searing inks for. Certainly not the next Great American Novel. Extensive journaling? But you'd never be able to read it again. Maybe I just don't how to live and be free.

LOL, I use my retinal searing inks for my daily inks. I haven't written a great American novel, but I have published poetry but it wasn't handwritten.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
