I know what you mean, nice to have a weekend at the coast, perhaps we can persuade Ian to look at Scarborough or even along the south coast.

The reason that we have moved to Chester is that we had just about outgrown the Clifton Arms at Lytham and the additional space at the venue that we had hoped to expand into was being turned into a lounge bar and therefore not available to us. Chester is also the traditional home of the Northern show, Chester is where Jim Marshall first started the show long before it moved to Lytham.

The Chester hotel is directly opposite the rail station and it has good parking. It also has two international airports in close proximity. It also has loads of shops, pubs, cafes and being the ancient Roman centre of Deva loads and loads of historical culture.

Apologies for the out of date website our ISP have completely upgraded their infrastructure and moved our website to the 'cloud' :yikes: ... and now our FTP is completely screwed and being non techy it takes me a lot longer to get there I'm afraid, however you will find all of the shows listed on FPNs events calendar.

Hope to see you at the shows and please don't be shy wear your freaking FPN sticker with pride!!

Dinner, Carol? What dinner? Nobody told me about dinner on the Saturday night.

Hi Jimothy,

The evening before each show a gang of us (dealers and visitors) normally get together for dinner and a 'few' beverages, the Northern is no exception to this and at the moment about 16 of us are scheduled to meet for dinner in the Queen hotel. We generally meet up in the bar between 6 - 7pm then go eat, whilst we can normally 'squeeze' in a couple of extra bodies its best to let me know that you'll be joining us for dinner beforehand so that I can expand the table size. These social gatherings are a great precursor to the shows and allow you to get to know some of the major dealers better.

Ian, thanks for the info about the Saturday night. Upon making further enquiries it transpires that I am not able to attend anyway. C'est la vie. See you all on Sunday.

Post event thanks to the organisers and exhibitors for a great day. Some wonderful pens and related items in a good venue. Would that I had more time to browse and funds to match. Saw my very first Waterman Edson in ruby and decided it's a must have (who needs a vacation when you've a pen like that to buy?)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
