Some Brewing Plans

Recommended Posts

I have been planning to brew a batch of my iron gall inks in the near future. Now I have been experimenting some problems to get the necessary blue dye for my Urkundentinte. I made a small test batch with a batch of aniline blue from a new supplier, but it was a disaster: not only clumps in the writing fluid, but a very light color too, making the ink look like wash out. So I my search for a good supplier of this very expensive dye (most cheaper versions are diluted and/or not fully sulfonated) goes on.

Another fact for those interested: due to the recent significant increase of PayPal fees and the shipping costs charged by the Belgian postal services, be warned there will be an extra surplus charged to cover the costs for shipping outside the European trade zone. SEPA credit transfers are free of charges, so preferred for those who can pay directly in the eurozone from their banking account by electronic credit transfer.

Thank you for your interest in my inks and sorry for the waiting, as I am making these inks in my spare free time. Supply is very limited and subject to my free time, the availibility of the necessary ingredients (especially the dyes) and necessary ripening time of the inks. :D

Hi there! Good to hear from you. Could you please tell us which inks of yours are still available?

I still don't have all of the inks which you once offered us.

Take care

:) Welcome back! Well worth the wait! I have been thinking lately of your wonderful Urkundentinte. Please continue your efforts as I am a big fan of your inks especially Urkundentinte

Good to know you're back -- we were getting worried that your life had completely blown up on you. I was afraid to contact you (not for inks, just to see if you were okay) for fear of upsetting you further, because it was clear that 2013 was not a good year for you. Hopefully 2014 will be better.

As for the inks, let us know the status of when they're ready and what all you have available.

Thanks for posting the update. I suspect you'll have quite an influx of messages. I hope you are able to find the dyes you need. If you do make another batch please post a pointer for how we might contact you to find out more. The inks you've made in the past have a lot of high regard on the forums and on several blogs that I've read away from FPN.

cheers,

-Brian

We have high regards for them because they're great inks. And the colors are unusual and interesting for IGs. I especially like Turkish Night (starts cyan, oxidizes to dark green), and Urkundentinte is probably my favorite blue-black IG ink because it goes so dark (I got to have a sample from someone's bottle of it a couple of summers ago at a pen club meeting).

I'm looking forward to get a chance to try some of the ones I didn't get when I ordered before. (Nelson -- *please* say you're going to be making up a batch of the Sang Real at some point. So I can start saving up my money for the overseas shipping fees....)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
