Hey, be patient! It's only been 1 1/2-2 years since the announcement that they would be making the pen! (j/k)

I know how you feel; haven't seen an official date but the last word from TWSBI (posted last month) was that the Eco was "almost done." I haven't seen anything further about price; originally Speedy said it would be $25-30, but....

I am waiting for the wooden TWSBI to be ready for sale, but they just announced that, so I am in for a looooonnnnggg wait!

That is the double-edged sword of Speedy's inclusiveness. On the one hand, you get the thrill of seeing the things with which TWSBI is playing. On the other hand, it is a long process from concept to market. And sometimes, they get a little overzealous with their own expectations of finished product deadlines.

It's kind of like looking forward to Christmas on January 1.

HOOOOOOOOORAY!!!!!!!

Really? Very cool, if true. Though the speculation was that the pen would be released in "early 2014" (from an article on Goulet's Ink Nouveau) that didn't happen, and there has been no announcement from TWSBI that the pen was finally in production - nothing on their website or Facebook page - last mention of the Eco on FB seems to be from 10/2012...

Are you sure your shop wasn't talking about the new TWSBI Mini in white that they just launched on Wednesday of this week?

(And how I envy you that you have a local pen shop.)

 Two Hands Paperie is a wonderful shop; we have had a couple of our Pen Posse meetings there and they are one of our sponsors for the first Colorado Pen Show, scheduled for October.

They have lots of lovely papers, cards, journals, as you can imagine, many of which are fountain pen friendly, but they are not a dedicated pen shop. They used to have an employee that restored and sold vintage pens there, but he was gone before I 'discovered' Two Hands. They have a nice but somewhat limited selection of modern pens, one brand being Visconti, and I believe they have started to carry TWSBI fountain pens as well. The only ink they carry is J. Herbin. They may well start stocking more 'fine writing instruments,' but their passion is paper!

Yeah, their selection of pens is limited. They have Lamy, Visconti, Kaweco, Pilot and TWSBI, along with a few others. But not an exhaustive selection of any of those. They do have Private Reserve and Waterman inks.

There is a Paradise Pen down in Cherry Creek area as well.

I haven't yet made it to Paradise Pens; I have heard very mixed reviews of the chain, some stores have helpful, knowledgeable people, others have folks that just want to sell you bling and wouldn't know what a nib was even if you poked them with it. I have also heard that Paradise almost always charges full MSRP, which makes it difficult for poor folks like me! I know that Guiry's and Meininger's have a limited number of pens and inks as well, though Guiry's may be getting out of the business altogether. I guess what I am wanting is a locally owned (not a franchise,) dedicated pen shop. lol I know - I should be happy that we still have a few places in this area where decent pens can be had, but I can't help but wish for more!

Oh, and, nomadhacker, I do hope that you will be coming to the Colorado Pen Show in October. :)

Sorry about the thread highjack....Back to the TWSBI Eco....

I guess ScottieDarin isn't going to respond after teasing us with the announcement that the Eco would be available at his local shop on Monday. I still think he was mistaken and the shop was talking about the Mini in white which HAS been released, but....

Has anyone else seen the Eco available anywhere?

I haven't seen the Eco available anywhere, and haven't heard that it's been released, so I'd imagine we're still in the "wait and see" stage with this one....

Has any more information become available as to the release of the Eco version?

TWSBI posted a sample of the ECO packaging on their Facebook page back in June of this year, and several of the folks in the comments asked about the release date for the pen, but, as is often the case, there was no response from TWSBI. So, don't hold your breath, but perhaps since they started firming up the packaging 3 months ago, the pen will finally be issued in early 2015...??? Always a guessing game with months - or years - of anticipation when TWSBI makes these "new pen" announcements.

Kind of sucks that their first mention of the ECO in October of 2012 was that it was going to be their "Next Pen." Since then, they have come out with the 580 AL, the Classic, the 580 in Rose Gold, another rendition of the Classic that can be posted, the Mini in white and Rose Gold, the 580RB, the 580USA, the..... You get the picture. Apparently the word "next" means something different in Chinese than it does in English, or something got confused in the translation. :P

So, the Eco is now listed by UK seller, Pure Pens ("Coming soon... But... No news yet!). This is a recent development.

My question is therefore, is this pen now finally about to be released, or is this another iteration of teasing?

You are not the only one with that question! lol - I reckon we'll know it has been released when we find it listed as "In Stock" at one of our vendors, until then, your guess is as good as anyone else's! Anyway, no mention of the Eco being in production on the TWSBI website or Facebook page; perhaps Pure Pens is being optimistic?

I was hoping they'd be available by now, but patience isn't one of my strengths. I'm excited about any new non-mini TWSBI, but especially one at this low of a price. I think it looks cool too. I'd contact TWSBI and tell them to "HURRY!!!", but I think I've another pen or two around here somewhere...

Thanks TinkerTeacher, by my calculations that's any day now. I wonder how quickly the first shipments will sell out. It'll be like J. Herbin's "Stormy Grey" all over again. ; )

Oh, stocks of the ECO should be fine.

It's the Vac Mini that I expect will sell out 5 min after its release, and then be back ordered for months.

OK, I apologize for harping on about this, but has anyone heard about a release date for the Eco and Vac Mini?

On the Anderson Pens Podcast last night, they said Phillip was hoping for next month on the Eco. Still nothing close to firm on the Vac Mini or the Vac 20A bottles. The bottles are apparently ready, but they are holding them to release with the Vac Mini.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
