Herbin 1670 red aka Rouge Hematite, the original formula that contained the elusive metallic particles.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I tried to take Noodler's Cayenne out of rotation in favor of Noodler's Apache Sunset, but now both are in wet pens. I doubt others will see them, but it's flashy to me. Beautiful colors.

I'm so glad you found the lime. Isn't it super pretty? If you look closely, you can see a silver sheen that outlines some of the text. Yes, SILVER. :D

Oh yes, thank you so much for introducing me to it - order placed! :)

As a change from using blue ink in my personal correspondence, Waterman purple does jazz up the written word on the page.

Is there a vendor who sells samples of these Sailor, Kobe, and Bung Box inks? I had never heard of the latter two, but now I've got a serious lemming!

J. Herbin's Rose Cyclamen also seems to make an eye-catching appearance on occasion, too!

And Noodlers' Navaho Tourquoise has grabbed people's attention when I have used it as well.

Pardon my ignorance, but I've not heard of Kobe #19 (Minatogawa Lime) - where might one obtain it?

(Not to worry - found it now ;)).

Where oh where? I would love to find some.

I wish Yama-dori would return. I never had the pleasure of using it.

Apache Sunset is the only ink that I have... that has a noticeable difference.

What other inks show that much difference in color variation. I realize that the quality of paper & the nib factor in.

I get mine from cool-japan on eBay. $20 plus shipping, which is usually quite low.

Sorry, I don't know of any vendors selling samples of Kobe, Bung Box, or Ishida Bungu inks. :(

Same here. It arrived yesterday. Pretty quick, actually. And it really is as wonderful as it looks. By far - far - the nicest green ink I've ever used.

Buy some - you won't regret it! :)

One of the flashiest wow-iest inks I have is Pharmacist's Turkish Night, both for the color and the speed of oxidation.

Other ones I have are J Herbin Rouge Hematite (again, original formula) and PR DC Supershow Blue. Pretty much any ink that sheens a lot will look flashy.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Diamine Orange, Apple Glory, and PR Naples Blue are some of my WOW inks that I can think of off the top of my head.

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

Fountain pens in general get wows. Anything other than blue ink gets OH MYs. This set of drawings was doodled at a conference that was boring. These are my least flashy inks. ... Okay, well the small amounts of Momiji are flashy, but other than that, this is the least flashy purple, green and orange that are in my collection. So, I think it's all about what you do with that ink.

Cool Japan has some for $19.99 shipped. I got some Kobe Island Blue from them and it just arrived today after 10 days, which is pretty good for shipping from Asia to the US.

Saskia--I also have the C d'A Saffron and love the shading and color shifting. As you know, it flees before water. Do any of the other inks you scanned have water resistance? I love the Kobes and the Bung Box, but would use them only if there were some water resistance.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
