What Is Your Favourite Italian Fountain Pen

Albinoni

Recommended Posts

Ok just thought I would raise this question here and we all know that we love our fountain pens and writing with them.

Buw out of all the Italiam fountain pen brands, what is your favourite.

So far the only Italian fountain pens I own is a Visconti Homo Sapiens and a Aurora, although I would love to own a Omas one day too.

I have Italian pens from Auroa, Grifos, Ferrari da Varese, OMAS, Signum but my personal favorite Italian pens are all from Montegrappa.

I like the design of Italian fountain pens.  Of the ones I have the two I like best are the Aurora TU with an italic-medium nib and a Columbus Versailes with a fine nib.  They are quite different in writing styles but they both are fun to use.

Tough question in that there are several Italian companies that produce some very, very nice pens. I own a variety of them; Montgrappa, Signa, Visconti, Omas, & Nettuna. I like different brands for different reasons. If I had to choose one, I'd pick Delta as they're more than just a pretty face ... they offer some nice features that enhance the writing experience. I really like the Delta piston filling system that usually comes with a small ink window. Delta pens are of good size and come in some beautiful colors.

Here's my Dolce Vita del Oro:

Very Difficult question indeed....As I have quite a few Italians, But if I had to chose it would be one that a Dear friend sold me and it is a Visconti Portofino LE #26 of 150. Made in 2001 specifically for the Fountain Pen Hospital.....It is 12 sided and weighs 32.1gr. She is 5.5" Capped x 6.5" Posted and her colors are - Cream, Ivory and Black lines Cellulose accetate. The Nib is 18kt Two Tone Visconti - 18kt/750/Firenze/S" and has been cut into a Smooth & Crisp Stub.....

The Sterling Silver Clip is meant to represent the 1992 America’s Cup Challenger ll Moro di Venezia, riding a wave. The clip was designed by Visconti specifically for the sailor’s of that great sailboat. The Italian Challenger did not win the America’s Cup in 1992, but the Clip design was authorized for use on later pens such as the Voyager and Uffizi series.

LOL - Give me a few minutes and I'll think of it

After trying Aurora (which I love, by the way), Delta, Stipula, and Visconti, I bought my first Omas about 1 1/2 years ago. I currently own 31 with another on the way. Of course, the LA Pen Show is in a few weeks, so......

I haven't taken a photo in a while. Guess I need to update this one which only covers about half of them.

Aurora, judging by how many I have (2). Though I love Delta's signature orange resin and regret selling my Dolce Vita, I was not crazy about the nib. I'd like to try a Montegrappa and Visconti.

I can't say I have a favorite Italian pen but I can say that my favorites tend to be from Aurora. 1950s 88, Optima, and Ipsilon. I also use OMAS pens regularly and their vintage nibs are fantastic...OMAS pens tend to be more of a love hate relationship though.

Okay, okay lol! Yes, Visconti, especially my late model Michelangelos. Of the Italians, I've only tried Visconti and one from Montegrappa (gorgeous blue Espressione), but color me hooked on Italians. So far, I'm loving that winning combo of form plus function. They are lovely.

Visconti. I like the 3 I have very much. I can't weigh in on Delta yet, as I haven't inked up my Blue Moon yet. There are some truly beautiful Italian fountain pens. Sounds like enough of them to keep us parting with our money.

Visconti by brand, specifically it's a toss up between my Opera Crystal and HS Lava.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
