We made a special purchase and secured a handful of these heavy, well-made Duke pens, which came out circa 2004. They come with the full packaging, including cardboard outer sleeve. They each boast the super-smooth Duke 14k nib, in an unmarked size that seems like a modern medium. They are converter/cartridge fillers.

The Gold Medal pens are cylindrical with handsome Italian veined marble resin barrels and gold plated appointments. We've got them in two colors with two different styles of cap. We've got the blue marble version with the gold matte cap on the web site right now at $125. We'll get the other colors/caps on the web site this afternoon.

The other model we acquired is the Duke Beijing Opera Rhythm model .... cloisonné with rose gold trim, decorated with faces and Chinese characters. These also features a 14k nib, but the nibs are cut so as to increase flex. These pens come with a two-pen leather carrying case as well as a heavy wooden presentation box. We're offering this one at $175.

Though it hardly needs saying -- these would make great gifts :-)

We reduced the Beijing Opera model to $145.

We've added a few more of the Gold Medal pens, and reduced prices on them to $120.

This one has a blue-black and gold striped cap:

This one has brown resin in a nice burl wood design:

And this one has the brown resin in the wood design, but with a striped cap:

Later this week we'll be getting in some of the lower end Duke and Uranus pens .... the majority will be under $20. All packaging with free US shipping. The models will include:

  • Blue Pearl
  • Complete Esteem
  • Models 911 in black, brown, green and "shell"
  • Model 929 (Tiny Porcelain Squares)
  • Crane
  • D2 in silver and gold

Let me know if you are looking for anything in particular, and we can set it aside for you.

Thanks!

We reduced the Beijing Opera model to $145.

And one of them is going to be mine, mine, mine! :bunny01:

I'm really looking forward to receiving this pen... much more than any other pen before. Knowing USPS, I guess I'll have to wait 4 to 6 weeks until I can hold it in my hands. But as they say, anticipation is the best kind of delight.

Thanks for posting the offer here on FPN.

Danke!!!

We gave it a special inspection and nib adjustment, just for you!

We really like these nibs, they are very smooth and have nice flex. Be sure and let us know what you think.

We just noticed there is a second version of the Beijing Opera pen .... Different faces, with burgundy make-up. If the customer has a preference, be sure to let us know, otherwise we will ship the version that matches the photos.

As a Chinese student ,i have to say, that the so-called "duke" pen is not famous in China at all. "Duke"says it is from Germany, but

it isn't.It only registered a brand in Deutschland, and went back to China, saying it has high-tech producing line from Germany.

In China, its brand is“德国公爵”,“德国”means "Germany",and"公爵“means"duke". But in your picture, it changed into"公爵金

牌”,“金牌”for"gold medal".That is for,it feared of being debunked. :)

Thanks for this perspective. I have been stating in my various listings that the German reference is due to R&D there, but there seems to be some suggestion that at least some of the nibs are German made.

When you say "famous," do you mean not well known? Or perhaps just not well-regarded?

Good luck with your studies!

Well, at least at the time when the pen was made, the German Duke Lux Pen GmbH still existed. It was officially closed on December 23rd, 2011, for lack of funds. Having seen the "premises", I doubt it was more than a letterbox company.

About the nibs: I'm certain that the nib on the 379 Leader is German made. Maybe the nib on the Beijing Opera, too, I'm not so sure about that one, though.

The nib on your Gold Medal shown in the photo is Chinese, just like the one on the 212-1 APEC. However, my Gold Medal has a different nib, but that's probably Chinese made, too.

I made a video about the Gold Medal because it's a fantastic pen, albeit a bit too thin for my hands. If you'd like to watch it, you can find it here:

Duke Gold Medal Video I keep saying 55€ instead of $55 in the video, sorry!

Thanks for the additional info and the video.... I doubted that there was very much to see in Germany, just a token presence that would allow them to justify using "Germany" in the company name.

Well, the company may be gone, but what remains are some very nice pens. We are really happy to have found this trove, and our customers have really been digging them.

I'll bring a few if these to the L A show if anyone wants to take a look. I won't have a table, but send me a PM or contact me via the web site and we can set a time. I'll also have some of the low and mid range Duke pens with Nivardo's italic grinds.
