Adding another pen. The total tally is still at 74. I removed the 150/481 since it is identical to the M150 in every respect and therefore is not a model in itself but rather a designation for a commemorative packaging with inkwell. I will post another complete list in the next post.

The most up to date list as of 2/9/14. Changes include removal of the nib-on-chain variants which I no longer deem to be official releases. Also the 170th anniversary M150 was removed as this is the identical pen to the Green/Black Galeria Kaufhof release, just with additional literature in the packaging. This brings the total number of pens verified to 71.

@ Konis. Very interesting. Thanks for the post and the great pics. What I'm finding is that there were some models that I'd call transitional for lack of a better word. Examples would be M150's in both grey and burgundy variants with an old style barrel but a new style cap (example above in post #13). This may be similiar to that. One of the pens you depict was prior to 2003 and one was post based on the number of chicks on the cap. Interestingly, despite the new-style post-'97 cap, the one has the old style barrel. I've decided to not explore these transitional variants though as they are too random to track down. I suspect it's an instance of Pelikan using up old inventory.

This isn't confined to these lines, either. I think Rick Propas has used the expression "lunchtime special" for some of these sorts of items. Such pens have been a source of discussion, sometimes disagreement, over the years. In addition, there have been "experimental pens" made by Pelikan that crept out for sale, once again, becoming highly disputed in some circles, or some very limited regional distribution of a certain pen line in quite small numbers. A good example of that sort of pen was the tortoise M800 before the recent re-issue of that line.

As I commented in this thread, "My very personal perspective is that if a pen is sold by a distributor or store as delivered by Pelikan to the distributor/store, the pen is not a "Frankenpen", even if the number sold is small. That's more than enough for me in the respect of owning the pen, and should I decide to sell one, I would represent it in exactly that manner."

post-27244-0-17110000-1392071803_thumb.jpg

Speaking of which... Here's a copy of the print ad for the Levenger M250 line of Pelikans (note the dates in the advert for the close-out!). At another point in time, Office Depot was selling M and R200 lines of pens, but I don't have a copy of the advert for those pens. I've read and heard disputes about these pens at different times, with some declaiming them as "Frankenpens". Still, a substantial number of pens went through both of those companies, and I consider them to be "real Pelikan pens".

But that's me...

Here is the set.. Pelikan issued them as Pelikan Snake at that point of time. Still it looks very identical with the M101N Lizard sleeve.

So would these still be considered a m101? They are clearly different but I can't find much info... I picked up a rollerball:-)

No. These are M, R, and K200's in the lizard pattern made in very small quantity for the US market only. Not to be confused with the 101.

That is a beautiful pen. Pelikan referred to that color as Anthracite.

The M100 (Black, Green, Brown, Red, Dark Blue, and White) are no longer in production and can only be obtained on the used market. That said, there are a lot of NOS white ones for sale on eBay from time to time. The black one can be found on the second hand market with relative ease and a little patience. The green, red, and blue ones are much harder to come by and the brown one is the most elusive of all in my experience. So, if you want one of these, look for a white or black one.

The M150 has several more variations than the M100, mostly because it was made in both Pre-'97 and Post-'97 variants. These are easy to find in black and easier to find in green or burgundy. The grey is much harder and the dark green cap with black barrel has yet to be seen by me. The M150 in black in the post-'97 variation can still be purchased new from places such as Amazon.com and the black pre-'97 variation is abundant in the used market.

Good luck with your search...

Here is the most up to date list as of 5/13/14. The notable additions are the 2014 special edition M200 Cognac Demonstrator (identical to the amber M200 and M250 in color except for a gold band around the crown cap top) as well as the post-'97 grey M150. That brings the total range up to 73 pens (of which I've now collected 54 of them). The two pens highlighted in red below have been reported (via Werner Ruttinger) though I have never been able to find an example. If anyone has a lead on one of these, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it. Thanks!

I am overwhelmed by all the collections that I see on this post. I have 2, that's right, 2 Pelikans.

I have had a R200(?) Rollerball for a long time & I recently purchased a Pelikan 140.

  1. The barrel is totally green striated and the view window is clear but the striations continuing over the view window down to the section.
  2. The nib is a Gold (?) or colored Gold color(?) with a semi flex nib, which writes effortlessly. The nib is clearly marked with Pelikan in that destinct scrip and has markings of 14C-585 with K M at the base of the nib.
  3. Around the barrel near the piston end is engraved,"PELIKAN 140 GUNTHER WAGNER GERMANY.
  4. The cap has the engraved "hollow" or "outlined Pelikan logo in a circle with some of that gorgeous green paint still on it. All of the trim ware, clip, rings etc are in great a shape.

THE BIG QUESTION IS WHAT DATES WOULD COULD THIS PEN BE FROM? I absolutely love the way this writes and am hoping to be able to collect more Pelilkans as I go along in this new found "ADDICTION"!

I DO apologize for not having pics of it to show but, for now the description will have to do. If anyone can help me with any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

@figment7; That's easy. You have a green striated Pelikan 140 with a 14 karat gold kugel medium nib. Sounds to be all correct from what you describe. That nib was made to be more user friendly for the general populace and kugel means "ball" so it wasn't particularly picky about the angle used. This pen dates from 1952-1965 and replaced the Pelikan 130 Ibis. Great pen. Enjoy it!

I recently bought my first Pelikan M150. It has a great feel and writes great but I have a question; the nib seems to move from side to side more than any other pen I have. Normal?
